Any equivalent of Strobe by IBM
G'day All, Please let me know if there is any equivalent of Strobe tool by IBM or any other companyand which one is cheaper and better to purchase? Also, please let me know if any of you know how much it would roughly cost? Can Strobe or similar other tools provide CPU/resource consumption breakup paragraph wise (in COBOL programs) . or breakup for Database calls ? Re: Question regarding RACF migration.
G'day All, Thanks a lot for all your responses. It was really really useful. Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 12:08 PM To: 'IBM-MAIN@BAMA.UA.EDU' Subject: Question regarding RACF migration. G'day, I want to know from a technical perspective if some one needs to migrate an existing system from an older version of OS (say MVS/ESA, OS/390 etc to Z/Os) what is the impact on RACF?. Would migrating the RACF to a newer version be a big enough Project(like a 6 months to 1 year kind of project)?. Or as in any migration from one version to another, RACF is also automatically handled?. Please advice. Thanks in advance for your response. Query regarding some estimation model for system admin activities.
G'day, We are looking for some kind of generic estimation model / document for allocating the resources on system admin. Inputs we have are, number of LPARs, number of CICS regions, number of DB2 regions, number of batch jobs running, number of online applications, storage size, MIPS rating, patch activities, installations/up gradations , Change man activities. With these inputs we need to come up with a rough cut on resource estimation like number of resources (with what min experience) for each of the activities. Can you please share if you have any generic documentation/guidelines on this. Sorry it's a question with lot of loose ends, but that is what we have from clients, hope you all understand :-) Thanks Sridhar K Veena This message is for the designated recipient only and may contain privileged, proprietary, or otherwise private information. To set cancel of job based on SYSOUT
G'day, Is there a way I can set a job to be auto purged if it crosses certain number of lines of SYSOUT. We have JES2. Ours is a pure training mainframe with limited resources, we often see some looping jobs filling up the SPOOL volumes (though we have automated the purge of SPOOL volumes for every 15 mins!) Also, is there a way I can set up auto delete response to some dump messages which keep popping up in logs? Regarding SDSF pgm
G'day, Please let me know if there is a way to extract all the jobs (with start and end times) from spool. The requirement is to provide a daily report on jobs that ran, with their start time, end time and return code. Is there a way I can use SDSF pgm to extract contents of all the jobs (or JESMSGLG of all the jobs) in spool to a dataset. Then I can use REXX to generate the reqd report. Please note, we do not have any other tools (like JHS) other than SDSF ! Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Report on TSO usage
G'day All, Am new to this list, sorry if am asking the wrong question here ! Am looking for some kind of report which will pull out the info on TSO usage on a mainframe. Something which would individually list all the TSO users who logged on and their various resource consumption stats. Please let me know if such a thing is possible by running some reporting JCLs. We have a mainframe that is used for training purposes, and the TSO users are constantly changing. We are looking at generating resource consumption reports after every training session.
