No; you nay be thingking of an upper/dual case control on some keyboards.
The Text keyboard had a rex on/off key that was a toggle and an Alt key
that you had to hold down. See p. 17 of GA27-2788-1.

It's been over 20 years since I saw one but as I recall it was a rocker

hold a special key down while typing one-handed.

As I recall, there was an Alt key but not all displayable characters could
be entered from the keyboard. I'm pretty sure that there was no GE on the

Not just drawing; brackets require GE sequences.

Does your 3270 simulator support use of the Graphics Escape (GE)
character? As I recall, ISPF expects [ and ] to come in as GE 'AA'x and
'GE 'BB'x, replacing the two-character sequences with 'AD'x and 'BD'x.
Outgoing it replaces single characters with two-character sequences as
appropriate.

You haven't convinced me :-) As said before none of the code pages
037, 285, 500, 273, 1047 have the curly braces assigned at x'8b' and
x'9b'. Except from CP273 they all have them at x'C0' and x'D0'.

So it's not a problem that can be solved with correct code page
settings. You need ISPF to do some strange undocumented translation,
too. Thinking about all the troubles there are dealing with different
code pages I really do not need ISPF to get into the path "emulating
the ancient T-11 printer chain".

BTW, did anyone recognize that the curly braces at x'C0' / x'D0' look
different to those at x'8B' / x'9B' when terminal type is set to 3278T.
The latter are slightly higher than the former.

I'll stay with terminal type 3278 which does not translate anything
above x'3F' from my experience.

You're right. I was overstating to call the little one line descriptions
"explanation".And this stuff is old. I remember once having written
myself a little edit macro for comments that would create a nice solid
line box around comment text, but it looked like garbage unless you were
using 3278T to view it. This was back when my terminal actually WAS a
real 3278 with TEXT keyboard.

I wonder how well this one would match up with code page 1047:
28. 3278L1 (3276, 3278, or 3279 terminal with Latin-1 character set)

See this for a table showing how 3278A and 3278T map codepoints.

The help is inadequate. It says nothing about how the terminal type
setting influences the data stream.

For the 3278T setting I use, it says simply "(3276, 3278, or 3279
terminal with TEXT keyboard)". Tracing shows that this setting causes
ISPF to recognize certain character values in the data stream and
convert them to graphics escape sequences. For example, the x'AC'
character is written to the display as x'08C5' which is the "upper left
corner" graphical drawing character.

I suspect a) that the original devices with this TEXT keyboard had a
special shift key or something that would allow input of these graphical
drawing characters, b) that this function predated the advent of the
graphics escape character set, and c) that the drawing characters
appeared correctly without translation on those devices.

Presumably, ISPF translates for graphics-escape-capable emulators to
provide end-user-apparent compatibility for text-based graphics built
using those devices. I have not been able to find this behavior
documented ANYWHERE!

Is this a question for me? I don't do DB2. ;-) But we did just convert
all our DB2 from ccsid 500 to 37. This was done for DB2 V8. BTW, some
QMF / GDDM fallout from that also. I now have to support a GDDM defaults

executed QMF in some environments, but I just found out one of the other
ones has a bunch of QMF batch jobs that get the same code page mismatch
error message.

IBM's macro syntax diagrams consist of drawing characters, square brackets,

I don't know the code page involved, but the GX20-0157-2 (System/370

Has IBM announces a change from CP037 to CP1047?

The REXX manual still refers to CP037 as the code page being used.
This concerns only the not sign (¬) which is at x'5F' in CP037 and
at x'B0' in CP1047.

The same thing I am since I get see the same results with Vista TN3270.

Those characters are before the brackets are x'AC', x'EB', x'EB' and x'AB'.
The ones near or right before the end brackets are x'9B'.

FWIW, the characters to the right of the equal signs (and elsewhere) are x'8B'
(bracketing the data with the x'9B'--no pun intended, of course).
