Re: Help with Tape Hardware Issue TS3500

2011-10-21 Thread Neil Duffee
Lizette: we also encountered a 'lost' tape with our 3494 ATL. In the linear
frames/hallway where the gripper runs, there is a supporting strut/bar along
the floor that parallels the gripper's drive/tooth track. The bar is wide
enough just high enough above the floor panels to hide a 3590 cartridge. The
cartridge isn't visible unless you're looking back towards the open door ie.
from the drive side of the hallway. (Our ops guy spotted it by accident
when he was leaning inside the frame to look closely at the drive status panel
and caught a flash of colour from the external tape label.)

Don't know if this translates to your TS3500 but you might cop a feel along
the floor panels to see what (other than dust bunnies) you might discover in
the nooks crannies. (The same ops guy found two more cartridges elsewhere in
the 3494 by touch. We speculate that the gripper lost contact while spinning
to the opposite side essentially launching the cartridge across the floor like
a Frisbee.)

I wonder if they copied that from the MSS?

Help with Tape Hardware Issue TS3500

I had a hardware failure of some kind on Oct 15. Today I am missing the tape

We have run the inventory a couple of times and not luck in spotting the errant
tape. The Operators have opened up the ATL and manually scanned for the tape.

So far it is missing in action.

Any ideas where I can go next? The hardware support vendor says they did not
remove any tapes when they came in and brought the drive back on line. And the
only thing I know the vendor did was run an inventory and bring the A0B drive
back online.

Thanks

Lizette

2011-10-18 Thread Lizette Koehler
Thanks everyone.

We looked high and low in the ATL. Nothing in the gripper, floor, bin,
misplaced in the slots. We checked every tape in the ATL Frame (fortunately we
are small @800 tapes). So I will have to keep pressing on and seeing if maybe
the hardware support vendor put it somewhere we did not think about.
