I'm going to quess the answer to Q1 is no. Q4 will depend upon your geography and who you deal with (IBM or a BP). I did this on a z890. I wanted to do it on the new z9BC to save my IFL. My manager told me that IBM had told him that the IFL could currently run as an ICF, but that future microcode changes __might__ remove the capability without warning. Q2. IFL Question
Our shop has z/890 with IFL Processor (Product # 6516). WE have three MVS Lpar active and using. Now want to activate IFL processor. WE created new lpar for VM/linux by defining IODF for VM LPAR but could not be able to configure/link IFL processor with VM LPAR. I will be grateful if you please help us and guide us for the procedure to define IFL processor with our VM LPAR. Please give us some procedure to dispaly and activate IFL pocessor with VM LPAR. Did you do a POR with the new IOCDS? You have to use the HMC and build an image profile for the new lpar. The image profile defines things like the amount of storage, weight and processor type.
