Anyone know of other ways around this on current hardware? Maybe some sort of ICC interface which routes out a coax instead of TN3270E (remember, once upon a time 9370 CPUs had an inegrated 3x74 controller so this is not too far-fetched)? Barring that, can anyone verify they are running SL8500s with z/OS? Obviously SL8500 does work with z/OS. Command path is over Ethernet, (usually) over IP. Drives are ESCON or FICON attached. However you have two choices for management of the library: 1. HSC manages library. HSC resides on z/OS, it can serve z/OS clients (local, and other systems) - SMC, and open systems clients (Library Station software is needed). 2. ACSLS manages library. Open systems connect directly to ACSLS using their software (i.e. Veritas). z/OS connect using MVS/CSC software component. SMC is also required. -- Radoslaw Skorupka Lodz, Poland -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: StorageTek libraries with IP interface for z/OS?
I just went through this endeavor, i.e. Timberwolf (9740) without 3x74. We're on Z/OS and STK came back against trying to use ACSLS and CSC but were willing to give us a deal on a SL8500, so I assume that implies that the SL8500 works on Z/OS? Re: StorageTek libraries with IP interface for z/OS?
We have a Storage Tek library that is shared between Unix and z/OS. The device controlling the library is a Sun server running a piece of software called ACSLS which receives commands over our IP network. The mainframe software component that issues the commands to ACSLS is called CSC. Ken G. We used to run 9310 SILOs (well, we still have 1 left) and we converted the LMUs from 3270 to TCP/IP connections years ago. We recently had our DR vendor do the same thing (we still use 9310s at DR). Connection to 9740 LMU is supported by both Visara and STK. I've had a pair of 20Ls running for a couple of months, and they work well. -- David Andrews A. Duda and Sons, Inc.
