Re: VTS Ejected volume

2006-05-16 Thread Mike Wood
Since this is a VTS stacked volume it might not be/need not be defiend to
your tape management system. If defined to RMM, RMM will have no
information about the volume or its contents other than it is a stacked
volume and the library it should be in.

Others have answered the 'vts' aspect of the message

If there's any data on the tape being ejected -
the VTS copies it to another tape before ejecting.

Fear not.

Enjoy.

Thank you all who replied offline and online. Now I have downloaded a
copy of the book and it will help us.
I really got to ask the next dumb questions. Is it advisable to check if
the volume is really empty? How do I check if there is really no data?

When the VTS ejects a volume as read-only, it means that the VTS has
determined that the tape volume needs to be replaced. We were told that
the volume is empty, and VTS had placed it in read-only status until
there was no valid data on it.

You need to get a new tape that will replace the one ejected, and insert
it in so the VTS can use it.

VTS Ejected volume

2006-05-11 Thread Chiam, Susan Mee-Shia
 Hi listers,

Occassionaly, we get this message regarding some vts media..

  CBR3750I Message from library XXVTS1: OP0100 A Read-Only status 214

stacked volume 000502 has been ejected. (VTS 1) (05-12-2006 07:43:20).
*CBR3762E Library XXVTS1 intervention required.

Under what circumstances, OAM eject a volume? We do not see this volume
in RMM after this message. What are we suppose to do with this volume?
Check the contents of this ejected volume? Add it back into RMM?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
