Yes. I wasn't aware of a way to subset SMF type 14/15 records to only selected
datasets. Does your shop not bother to record 14/15 SMF? We need it due to CA-7
jobs being triggered by dataset creation (incoming ftp creates a DSN which then
triggers a CA-7 batch job to process it).

2009-08-04 Thread Bill Fairchild
If you can't find any SMF records of any type with your data set name in it,
then the process which is changing the file might be an authorized program
using a low-level access method. You can do this and not have any security
checking or SMF records written. But I think this possibility is not likely.

Re: help with smf

2009-08-04 Thread Spencer, Mike
To really understand what happened to the data set, you will want to use the
Type 14, 15, 17 and 18 SMF records. If you have SAS there is a very simple way
to code the records and produce a report of who did what to the data set and
when it happened. I used to have to do this all the time way back in the old
days.

Simpler?

At most shops I've worked at, it would be much more difficult and complicated -
either copy and paste the DSN into my DAF job and type SUB, or get in touch
with the security group and discuss the issue - I'd vote for the former every
time.

Simpler?

At most shops I've worked at, it would be much more difficult and complicated -
either copy and paste the DSN into my DAF job and type SUB, or get in touch
with the security group and discuss the issue - I'd vote for the former every
time.

True, but that requires auditting the dataset, which cannot be done
retroactively. And, it requires waking up the security staff.

SMF type 15 records.

However, it might be easier to use DAF from the cbttape web site.
http://www.cbttape.org/updates.htm and download file #094.
