Re: z/OS 1.10 Enhancement: Predictive Failure Analysis
Where are you seeing two versions? Please let me know so that we can clean that up. Also, the correct spot in the book is Part 2 instead of Chapter 2. My apologies for that error. Re: z/OS 1.10 Enhancement: Predictive Failure Analysis
-Original Message- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List On Behalf Of Brian Peterson In case you missed this, IBM has just released a new function for z/OS 1.10 called Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA) which is now available. http://www-03.ibm.com/support/techdocs/atsmastr.nsf/WebIndex/WP101454 This new feature is built upon the z/OS Health Checker infrastructure, and is apparently the basis for future new capabilities. Quoting from the above, PFA will be extended over time.. The feature is available in the PTFs for APAR OA27165. Predictive Failure Analysis is supported on z/OS 1.10 and later releases and requires: * IBM SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 ... but it doesn't say, or later. According to IBM's Java web pages, the SDK 1.4 level had its final refresh in Sept. 2008. -jc- -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: z/OS 1.10 Enhancement: Predictive Failure Analysis
Thanks for the interest. PFA requires Java 1.4 or later. The white paper that stated 1.4 is required has been corrected. The official PFA documentation can be found in chapter 2 of the z/OS Problem Management Guide G325-2564-04. http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/bkserv/v1r10books.html Karla Arndt -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@bama.ua.edu with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: z/OS 1.10 Enhancement: Predictive Failure Analysis
One of us is badly misremembering the movie. As I recall, HAL was deliberately fed incorrect information and the resulting problems were caused by his (or his software's) inability to deal with the inconsistency. -Original Message- From: Timothy Sipples Sent: Monday, April 13, 2009 10:24 PM To: IBM-MAIN@bama.ua.edu Subject: Re: z/OS 1.10 Enhancement: Predictive Failure Analysis At the risk of straying way off topic, in the 2010 sequel HAL's behavior was well explained: HAL had evil programmers, quite simply.
