Re: Missing order information in PMA report
Thanks for your quick answer. I've done a LIST for PRODUCT and FEATURE, but I couldn't find PRODUCT entries only for one of the listed programs: IBM 31-Bit SDK for z/OS Java Technology Edition 06.00.00 For me that is fairly strange, because I installed PSF V4.5.0 only a few month ago via CBPDO. Why are any FEATURE/PRODUCT entries missing? Kind regards. From conversations with a child who prefers not to be identified by gender and who also studied lingustics, I suspect that just as all the rules I learned about when to use "me" and "I" seem to be ignored when "and" is used ("John and me will be using the tickets given to Nancy and I") that "they, them, their(s)" will soon be treated as the singular forms for persons. It won't be a rule; as they say, to each their own. Gary Weinhold On Wed, 17 Jun 2015 20:03:01 -0400, Robert A. Re: Missing order information in PMA report
we are using SMP/E PMA to build a report about the products applied in our CSI. For some of the FMIDs the report does not give order information... My question now is: Why does this happen, even for fairly new productsfor example PSF V4.5.0 and is there a way to add the required information subsequently? Typically the "order information" used for the PMA report comes from PRODUCT and FEATURE entries found in the SMP/E global zone. These are created when ++PRODUCT and ++FEATURE statements are processed by the RECEIVE command. The "order information" can also come from the ServerPac order inventory, but that is really an historical artifact used in the early days before PRODUCT and FEATURE entries were prevalent. If your global zone does not have the PRODUCT or FEATURE entries for PSF, and if you did not provide PMA with a ServerPac order inventory, then that is why PSF appears in the report under the heading "FMIDs Without Order Information." So, the first stop in debugging is to query or LIST your global zone and look for PRODUCT and FEATURE entries. If the entries for PSF exist, then query or LIST the SYSMOD entries for the FMIDs, and look for the FEATURE subentries. These subentries connect the installed FMID to the FEATURE and PRODUCT entries in the global zone. Your next step to fix this will depend on your findings, so post 'em here, or send me an email directly. IPLs obviously restart all of z/OS (per LPAR), including z/OS networking, but that's terribly "brute force" and not required unless the operators are simply not sufficiently familiar with z/OS networking. Not so long time ago, when z800 was current machine *every* eth link down event required CHPID OFF/ON for the affected OSA card. So, assuming your system is communicating with rest of the wolrd (using OSA card) it was comparable to POR or IML, because *all* LPARs lost communication. The same had applied to older machines as well. Fine print: we were using ESCON-attached CIP from Cisco which wasn't affected by the above.
