Does Edge force the HTTPS-Only Mode that Joel mentioned?

The page above (still) has sample JCL for batch download via FTP.
How might one download an HTTPS resource in batch? Would it
require Co:Z and/or Ported tools (curl)?

Extra credit if one can un-TERSE a ".bin" instance without using a temp data
set.

What's a "data store"? Will downloads of HTTPS resources be prohibited?
What about ShopZ and RECEIVE ORDER?

I have no idea. We are completely kneecapped and *have to* use what someone
else configured.

>What about ShopZ and RECEIVE ORDER?

ShopZ has offered HTTPS for quite a while, so ShopZ has never been a problem.

As for 'data store': I am unsure of the correct word. I mean the places
somewhere in the cloud (even if the word ibm appears in the url) where just
about everyone can store things and see it. It is kind of public, I think. Our
installation generally prohibits us from accessing anything in these places, so
there it doesn't matter if it https or not, we cannot get there as it is
considered 'dangerous'. There seems to be a general list of IP addresses for it
somewhere, maintained by whomever, so that gets blocked by the firewall.

Re: [EXTERNAL] automated SMS Storage pool management

2021-11-08 Thread Pommier, Rex
Dave,

You got a lot of suggestions. Let me toss another one at you. We approach
this problem slightly different. We have a separate storage group we use as a
spill group. In our SMS routines we allocate the spill storage group behind
several of the others so it is kind of a shared group. If one of the
production groups goes too high, SMS will allocate space on the spill group to
get the needed storage. The next day we get notified that the spill group has
data on it and we can then move the data to the normal production group and
clean up the spill group. If it becomes a habit for a storage group to be
using the spill space we know it is time to increase the space in the
production group.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] automated SMS Storage pool management

All,

I'm sure someone has solved this. I'm now managing DASD management at my
shop. One thing that bothers me is my guys getting off-shift calls because
some active storage pools fall below a % threshold of freespace. We arent
skimpy on provisioning, but dont want to over-provision either. We are IBM
system automation shop, and I asked IBM if there was any "out-of-the-box"
automation for SMS we could start with and tailor to our needs. Nothing.
Not looking to fully automate storage pool management, but something along the
lines of having some number of volumes in DISNEW status, that could be enabled
via automation - saving that middle of the night call-out, but to follow-up on
next business day.

Anyone doing anything like this, case to share?

Thanks in advance, Dave

STP on HMC 2.15.0 training

With the z15 (HMC 2.15.0) the STP panels changed a lot. Does anyone know of
any education available on the new panels?

All the links on the STP page at

I have found a draft Redbook SG24-8480 IBM Z Server Time Protocol Guide

Jim,

We have z15 setup and running with STP, if you have any questions. The only
thing that I thought was different was, what happens after a POR. We setup the
HMC and STP, then do a POR just before we switch to the z15 and the STP
configuration was lost. There is a checkbox, the description isn't very clear,
but if you check that box, the STP configuration stays after POR.
