Cloning is even better as it enables ease of rollback.

Re: SMPE recreate a target library... Possible?

2023-01-04 Thread Dejan Stamatovic
@ Michael Babcock

I agree totally. Only backups provide a sure way out of problems during
applying maintenance.

All other methods mentioned here, might or might not work.

So just to make a point here:

Make sure you have a consistent backup of all affected data sets before
applying maintenance. SMPE might not be able to recreate a target library or it
might take too much effort to use SMPE to do that.

Re: PDS compression needs a new name - defoam? unfoam? degas? I hope someone has a better idea!

2022-12-21 Thread Dejan Stamatovic
Greetings to All,

If there is going to be a change to the name (which I really doubt), then I
suggest "reorganize" seems the best fit .

(just as Joel C Ewing suggested)

Other suggested names are just not the ones 'mainframers' usually use.

Best Regards

Re: z/OS 2.5 first time installation

2022-09-26 Thread Dejan Stamatovic
Hi Alain,

If you are going to install zOS v2.5 under zVM and you do not have zOS v2.3 or
later versions of zOS that you can use as a driver system, you will need to
order a driver for the installation of zOS v2.5.

This driver (or COD as it is called) can be ordered with zOS v2.5 free of
change.

What you have to be careful is order it together with zOS v2.5.

That will save additional effort to order driver system separately.

I am not even sure you will be able to order this driver without an zOS
operating system.

COD comes with its instructions to install it.

Once you have COD up and running , you are ready for zOS v2.5 installation.

Re: Resizing MCDS

2022-02-22 Thread Dejan Stamatovic
Hello Peter,

Your approch to the matter applies to resizing any VSAM KSDS data set.
Just make it simple, do not over think.

Your method is probably the best even though it has been used for ages.

I wish there was some new method to do the same as with this method you must
shut down HSM.

There is no justification for having removed this doc. z/OS 2.1 is still
in service...

Re: z/OS Internet Library Broken

2018-06-05 Thread Dejan Stamatovic
Hi Susan,

Thanks for your support. Things seem to be working again as they should be.

In situations like this one, I would go for versions of zOS that were working.
(this time around v2r3 was working). Not the best but close.

Going to KC is an option to which I go to only if nothing else works.
KC, at times, does not give me the answers I am looking for.

Just for the sake of anybody’s interest.

There in Serbia (a small European market) we have:

4 z/OS installations

1 VSE installations

Do not know whether this proves anybody's point but there it is!
