Re: DFSMSHSM is a not deleting expired datasets

2012-09-25 Thread Michael Wickman
It's a operator command. We have a batch job to do the release command and
schedule it every weekend.

Has anyone seen a program out there that will take an output from JES/2 spool
and write it to a dataset?
I know of a couple of software companies that market this. Just wondering if
someone has written one
or seen one on the CBT tape.

Re: How to update the last referenced date in the VTOC

2012-08-14 Thread Michael Wickman
We had the same concern when we went from ca-disk and our home-grown cleanup
routine to hsm. We do not us non-usage for the deletion selection, but pull
migration date form hsm the build delete/purge hsm commands to keep non-used
things from living forever.

Subject: [IBM-MAIN] How to update the last referenced date in the VTOC

Hi all,

We have a number development disk pools that were originally created
without having the auto-migrate setting enabled. We would like to turn
on auto-migrate but a large number of data sets would expire for
non-usage and be deleted. To keep the masses happy we want to set the
last referred date to "today" and then turn on auto-migrate for
non-usage. I have been trying to figure out an efficient way to do
this. I could write a REXX and VTOC listings to use IDCAMS PRINT to
print a single record from each file. I could write a program to
generate AMASPZAP statement to "zap" the VTOC but that just doesn't
seem right and could get me in trouble with indexed VTOCS.

Does anyone else have a better way to accomplish this? We have about
15,000 data sets involved with a mixture of VSAM and non-VSAM files - a
number of which are multivolume. Correcting the ills of the past is
always ugly.

I would appreciate any additional ideas.

Have you tried something like this:

DELETE (file.name) NOERASE NOSCRATCH -
  CATALOG(user.catalog.name)

Also, have you run a DIAGNOSE on the BCS?
