How to simplify IODF activation

2022-03-18 Thread Tom Conley

FYI,

Check out my "We're Bad, We're Sysplex Wide" Bit Bucket presentation
from SHARE in Anaheim 2014.  You can drive all your activations from a
single dialog in each sysplex.

Re: How to simplify IODF activation

2022-03-18 Thread Timothy Sipples
I don’t think I’d use FTP for this mission. It can be quite brittle and
difficult to keep secure.

How about the z/OS Management Facility? Chapters 30 and 31 of the IBM z/OS
Management Facility Configuration Guide (IBM Publication No. SC27-8419) explain
how you can configure and secure a multi-Sysplex (and/or multi-Monoplex)
network of intercommunicating primary and secondary z/OSMF instances. And then
you should have all the unified operator services you need to distribute and
activate IODFs across the several z/OS instances with or without automation.
Plus you’d be solving a lot of other, future operational challenges that much
earlier.

Re: How to simplify IODF activation [EXTERNAL]

2022-03-17 Thread Feller, Paul
Sometime ago I was told but IBM support you should do the software activation
first and then on the last lpar on the CEC do the software/hardware activation.
Doing it that why avoids the need for SOFT=NOVALIDATE during the activation.

Hi all,

Related to the IODF activation order, i think we should first do SW only
activation in all Lpars and SW-HW activation in the last one. The Lpars will be
synchronized again when HW activation is finished.

If you are deleting devices and do a HW activate first, you will probably have
device errors messages in Lpars where those deleted devices are defined.

Just my guess

There is a way to activate an IODF in batch.
Look here

You can create a file with this job and use ftp to run it on all of your

Subject: How to simplify IODF activation

Hi all
In our shop, there are more than 20 single image systems. When we want to
activate a production IODF, we have to logon to these 20 systems.

Could we logon to one z/OS system to submit JOBs to activate the IODF for
these 20 systems.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks a lot!
