Subject: DR Backup using DFDSS

Hi

I have a dilemma. All of my z/Linux DASD volumes are formatted for a VTOC on
cylinder zero so that I can leverage the z/OS DFDSS backups of these volumes.
No problem, however I am getting this one guest ready for DR and as such
running DFDSS on z/OS to accomplish this. This particular guest has 2 volumes
that do not have z/OS VTOC (Dedicating them in the Directory entry) therefore
DFDSS receives the ADR307E: error message basically because there is no z/OS
VTOC.

I know I could use DDR on z/VM to get around this but the problem is that these
volumes are in use and I need to attach them to whatever machine I am going to
do the DDR from and cannot go to another LPAR because these particular volumes
were not gen’ed to be accessible from any other LPAR but the production
(separation requirement).

So is there any way I can get these backed up given the above?

Thanks

Thank You,

Jim,
I'm using a Luminex tape server with zVM 5.3 and I just used SPXTAPE to
dump a user's RDR to tape.

I attached a Luminex drive to my userid as 181, did a tapeload command to
mount a volume (I could have used the GUI to do that too), and used this
version of the command:

spxtape dump 181 user rdr all rewind

You may just have to mount a volser before you start.

We have Luminex vtape.  The Luminex code provides tape support emulating
IBM 3590 drives with the actual hardware being on Sun dasd.  Everything
seems to work with the exception of SPXTAPE.  Does anyone else have
Luminex vtape?  Has anyone found anything that does not work?

The problem that we have is that some of the prints come from a CMS
users rdr. The originid is what actually gets passed. If the report
came
from the vse system to the CMS user, then the origin id is the name of
the VSE guest, and that can't be changed that I can see. We would need
to somehow alter the origin id in order to be able to have a valid user
id. We need to have each print job tied to a specific person and not a
vm guest name.

As others have suggested, you can use Diagnose x'F8' to change a CMS
users spool file origin information. From VSE, do you have an NJE
link defined to RSCS? If so, I believe you can specify origin
information when you submit the job to VSE.

were you need to swipe a badge on the printer to login and receive your
prints. This works fine for windows based printing. However, I am trying

the printer via LPR to lock down our vm prints to corporate printers.
These reports are generally from a VM users rdr, and sometimes from 1
