PTF installation question
Hello listers, I was looking into z/VM with XIV storage. It is supported only with SVC and in z/VM 5.4 you need two PTFs to support it. How do you install those PTFs for fresh z/VM 5.4 install ? When your only storage is XIV ? If I remember correctly, you first configure disks, do installation on disks and only then you apply RSU. Or do I miss something obvious ? Re: z/VM - z9 and zAAP
Using zAAP implies running z/OS. Which implies CPs, not IFLs. And I believe, z/VM 5.3 will provide zIIP and zAAP to guest only on machine, which is capable of having them. So zAAP on z990+ and zIIP on z9 (EC and BC). They don't need to be there, they can be emulated, but you will not be able to emulate zIIP on z990. If I am worng, somebody from Endicott please correct me. And the guest who can use them will only run on real engines rather than IFL, so z/VM 5.3 would offer you a way to convert expensive cycles into cheap ones :-) Not to pass a real zAAP straight to guests who know what to do with it without paying z/VM license for it. Re: DASD VOLSERs during install
Mark, not during the installation, but after that you can rename them. Marian --- Mark Pace [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm trying to verify for a friend that you can change the VOLSERs of the DASD during install of z/VM. I can't find my installation guide, so I'm asking here. He wants to be able to use VOLSERs other than 520RES, 520W01, etc -- Mark Pace Sponsored Link Compare mortgage rates for today. Re: zLinux and IBM 3592-E05 tape drives
Tom, yes, you can configure port to be in FCP or FICON mode, so on one card you can use both protocols.
