Congrats, Roland! You DB2/VM'ers and the z/VM folks in Endicott put a lo
t
of hard work into chasing this one down, obscure as it was, and now
apparently nailing it.

It won't be the Titanic if the iceberg isn't there, any more.

So far, only couple of customers had reported this kind of abends to

IBM. The abends can be avoided by changing the workload.

2010-02-11 Thread C. Lawrence Perkins
Steve, they're obtainable from ShopZSeries. Is your ShopZSeries customer

record correct? I.e., does it show you have a valid licence for DB2/VM

7.5? If so, just follow the Yellow Brick ShopZSeries Road down the
Primrose Path, I think the sequence is something like "create new softwar
e
order", use the right Customer Number for your DB2/VM 7.5 licence if you

have more than one CN, then "z/VM-Service" and the ESO Service from the

drop-down box, then the "use/don't use a report" screen, the next page yo
u
see should be "Step 3 of 5" and a list of Program Products several of whi
ch
are the recent versions of DB2/VM, as far back as 7.2 I think. Pick the

7.5 you have, full product or client-only, and then go through the usual

elephant-mating to get it delivered by your favourite delivery service.

Hope this helps.

2010-02-10 Thread Gentry, Stephen
Roland, or anyone for that matter. I would like to order all PTF's,
FIXES, etc for DB 7.5 running on zVM 5.4.

As many of you have experienced, I have "chased my tail" on RESOURCELINK
and SHOPZSERIES to no avail.

TIA

Steve

Subject: DB2 Server for VM with VMDSS enabled

Hello DB2 Server for VM users with VMDSS enabled running in z/VM 5.30
and above:

VM APAR VM64775 has been opened to address the ARIYI19 09 abends
encountered by DB2/VM server running with VMDSS enabled under z/VM 5.30
and above.

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
An error in pageable PGMBK processing causes segments which may
contain changed pages to be skipped. This can lead to changed
pages not being saved which in turn can lead to DB2 data
corruption.

The PTFs are now available:
R530 UM32966
R540 UM32967
R610 UM32968

Note that this may happen in a particular workload and in a very heavily
loaded (paging rate up to hundred of thousands pages per second) VM
system. So far, only couple of customers had reported this kind of
abends to IBM. The abends can be avoided by changing the workload.

Please review DOC APAR PK73730 for more details.

Regards,

...Roland

I think the main intent was to reassure folks that the risk of encounteri
ng
the problem in most normal production environments is quite small. Or in

other words, "don't panic". Still, of course, we recommend applying the
PTF,
especially on systems that page heavily.

I think the poster had this dialog in mind:

Doc: You know that if you do this it might hurt, don't you?

Patient: uh, no. Thanks, I'll try not to do that.
