Re: PTF providing CMS based SSL support

Hello,

I'm getting ready to order the PTFs for the enablement of
the z/VM 540 SSL server. Currently, I have 5.4 RSU 0801 installed
and running in test mode. Should I order a later RSU level too
and/or Updates for for CMS Service?

Thanks for your help,
Alyce

I just installed the SSL PTF. I first did the 5402RSU (0802) refresh from my
5.4 0801. I encountered no problems so far. I suggest you consider doing the
RSU service first.

Mark, does that mean the SPE 2 tape is available, or just these individual
PTFs?

David,

I just checked on IBMLink and the APAR VM64471 (for z/VM 5.4.0) is still in
certification. It looks like Mark's info is only for the SSL server.

Too bad!!!

From the announcement, you need to watch for the PTF for APAR PK65850.
When it is available, it will drag along five additional PTFs, two for
TCP/IP and three for CMS. You will need all six to make it go.

Sounds like compiling Linux 390 from source and installing it might be
easier

than getting SSL on CMS :)

LOL. Don't let your ears fool you!

The first time is the hardest. You have to hack your way through the
thick underbrush, watching for snakes, dragons, and orcs. Very messy.
(Eew! What *is* that smell?) But once you clear the path, subsequent

The general answer is It depends.

If we get enough orders for it, it goes on the RSU.
If it is new function, it typically goes on the RSU.
If it is important for everyone to have it, it goes on the RSU.
If it closes a security/integrity hole, it goes on the RSU.
If it pre/co-reqs something already on the RSU, it goes on the RSU.
If the developer can make some other case for it going on the RSU, it
goes.

In the case of SSL, it is planned to appear on the 0901 RSU. We just cut
the 0802 RSU - don't look for it there. Don't ask me when 0901 will
appear. Only the gods know that and they haven't Spoken to me.

The actual APAR/PTFs to watch for are:

For TCP/IP:
PK65850 / UK40952
PK73085 / UK40952

Yes, one PTF will get you the fix for both APARs. The PTF is not yet
available in RETAIN however you can place an order for it now. Once
the PTF becomes available the order will be fulfilled.

For CMS:

VM64540 / UM32541
VM64569 / UM32592
VM64570 / UM32594

UM32541 is not yet available in RETAIN, UM32592 and UM32694 are.

Les, you are missing PK75268 / UK41626. See
http://www.vm.ibm.com/related/tcpip/tcsslsvc.html. It is planned that
UK40952 will get you ALL the PTFs. I'll post here when it's time to
order, with the latest info from the developers.

I do suggest the folks start looking at

Les, you are missing PK75268 / UK41626. See

PTF UK41626 is already a pre-req of UK40952. Therefore all that
is needed to order is UK40952 which will obtain the support for the
two new APARs plus drag the existing APAR PK75268
