Re: Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) VM Closing
Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. Not much to take a picture of. The HMC and a 3270 sit at the operator's table. And the 9672 is just a big refrigerator-sized black box without any lights on the outside. However, if I can figure out how to run my new digital camera, and where to post the pictures, I shall.
Re: Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) VM Closing
Sigh, this makes me sad and nostalgic. More than 20 years ago, traveling in Israel, a friend and I visited Weizmann. Being geeks/techies (me VMer, she document technology expert), we of course arranged to visit VM sites around the world. We received a wonderful/warm reception equal to any red-carpet treatment. Visiting Weizmann was a high point of the trip for us. So, regards to the Weizmann folk and thanks for the long-ago visit! And maybe we should all wish you continued bad luck in shutting down VM... One good thing about our VM/ESA 2.4 system -- no new bugs in a very long time. I have been baby-sitting the system on a part-time basis for the last four years, so I will be really retired. -- Gabriel Goldberg, Computers and Publishing, Inc. That's the way I'm hoping to phase into retirement. Congratulations. Larry, I am sorry to hear that your VM is finally really going away. We at the Israel Police are still very grateful to you for the library of screen control routines you gave me back in the 80s, which is still heavily used, after being embedded in my WYSIWIG screen painter program.
