It is actually stonewalls bit, a mullen pelham, which the worst thing about it is it is a 5 in bit and I know Tivar's mouth is much smaller. The time before last I put bit guards on each side to take up room but he started chewing on them. I have a nice happy mouth french link that fits him tho. I just didnt have it with me because I felt like the sidepull was under the ton of junk somewhere but it wasnt! The happy mouth french link is best for Tivar when using a bit i believe. I have always put my foot in the english stirrup the same way a western works. But I have seen people doing it the opposite way,coming from behind the leather. Is their a right or wrong way? I am still trying to find the perfect bit or hackamore. My question is, If the bit is severe and the horse runs with it, am I pulling too hard? Does that make sense? Maybe I am being too hard handed. I got some devestating news today from my vet. Star has degenerative joint disease in her left hock and possibly/likely in her left hip. They are basically running around on the ice, putting on a show. Ice nails are used in their shoes to stop them from slipping on the ice, which may not be so bad if the horses are walking on ice, but with running, the ice nails grab the ice and send a torque up the leg. We have a friend that has a dog that has seizures when she is awakened suddenly from a deep sleep so they have tried to eliminate some of the triggers - disconnected the dorrbell, etc. You might try to notice and see is there is a common trigger -- Laree He usually has them in his sleep, but so am I so I haven't really figured it out after all these years.
