Feathers farrier work with Vanners

Brian , my client's Vanner had to have his feathers pulled up away from
his feet secured by a band of Velcro One Step so the farrier could see
angles etc. It was realy hard to keep his feathers clean in the mud though
 free of foxtails, ticks etc.

Do they look alike from the pictures?

Those pics aren't very good so I can't tell from them if she looks like
Lukka her mama.
I was told, may not be true, that he wants $3,000 and she has a natural
tolt on her. This does not come from him so if you want more info
better to email seller directly.
He has not emailed me back in my request to come see the horse.

 for sale
 it is. Did anyone
ever figure out what they are asking ($$$) for her?

I was terribly curious (not that I am looking for
anything) but I contacted Nate. He told me that some
buyer deal fell thru and that he had asked $6000 for
her. I think now he is entertaining offers. I am not
going to crossbreed any of mine. I don't have any
control over what others do and accidents do happen
occasionally but I like the Icelandic the way it is.
I know Gypsy Vanners have really heafty pricetags on
them so figure that is why he has priced her so high.
I, personnally do not think they are better than Icys.
They are an attractive horse with the feathers and
all but good gosh, the Icelandic is the whole package.

We have one Vanner gelding on island, imported from Ireland-$25,000,
untrained and young...pretty, Trotty and Big bouncy movements...he is
a sweetie, his name is Tatu, and he is a hard one to shoe, if he
wants his foot, he takes you with itbut I will just look at my
friends one, I have no interest in owning one as after a ride 3 years
ago on my friends quarab...I have not been on a non gaited horse
since...my body just did not enjoy itSally has a quarab that she
adores, he is wonderfully trained and forward, but every time she
gets off of him, her back is a little tweeked...

Since they have such a big trot, I am surprised that this cross is
stated to have great gaitsI am not sure if its an improvement on
the Vanner either, they are so beautiful all on their own.

And they way I look at crossbreeding is its not trying to improve the
Icelandic, but the other breed being bred to the icelandic, mabye
more bone, stronger, stuff like that. I like Icelandics very much
and do not know how I would improve them as a whole groupI like
what Denise sais, they are the whole package.

I noticed this topic was discussed awhile ago. I think Luna is a foal
from my Icelandic Lukka. If so, she would be a very well bred wonderful
horse if she is anything like her mama. One of the best, I believe!!! I
am gonna contact Nate and see if I could go look at her. I know Lukka
had one other baby from a Gypsy but not sure where it is. Did anyone
ever figure out what they are asking ($$$) for her?

my husband's favorite horse ever was a little icelandic/welsh cross
named molly. cute, strong, and would jump the moon for him. a great
pony on her own merits, not her pedigree.

that said, i'm rather surprised that a vanner/icey cross doesn't have
feathers? do they develop later than four years old or something?

This horse belongs to the Vet Tech at my Vet's office. Nate is a
really nice young man. And Dana is in my saddle club...she does a
nice job at startings young horses and is a good trainer.

Interesting, she looks nice and strong.

Another reason people might be cross-breeding
Icelandics with the heavier, small breeds like the
Gypsy Vanner and the Haflinger could be because the so
called purists breeding for show are refining the
Icelandic so they look like a Hackney with small boned
legs and narrow chests. I think it is THEM that is
 hurting the breed.

I agree, I look around at Icelandics for sale and I see quite a few
finely built ones, I just would not be interested in that, some of
them aren't even looking like what I expect an Icelandic to look like
anymore. If I were looking for a horse I think I would have no trouble
buying a cross bred Icelandic, if it were well built and gaited.
