It was only four years ago that I'd get so depressed, afraid that I had my ideal horse in Sina, but that I might not find ANY saddle to work for her. At that time, I probably would have been thrilled to have found ANY saddle that fit, even it had only been available in fuchsia/orange/chartreuse plaid! Now, thanks to treeless saddles, Sensations especially, not only do I have options in which saddles I can put on my horses, but - whoda thunkit - I can actually be picky about something as superficial as COLORS! Ah, how far we've come! This is a luxury I certainly didn't foresee just a few years ago. So, if you get sick of a particular > color, or if you want to use the saddle on a horse on a horse of a different > color, you aren't stuck. > What a great idea - I think it will really catch on. -- Laree

Sounds like fun - are these people pretty close to you? I've had three people in the past week take their first ride on an Icelandic horse here. I had my Sensation Hybrid on the horse for them. Everyone of them loved the horse I put them on, and loved the saddle. The first lady actually said, "I can't tell if I just love this horse, or if I love the saddle, or if I love them both." She likes color too and when I told her she could get the saddle in different colors or just have the seat in different colors, she was sold. I thought it would be cool with my chocolate and black saddle to have a purple seat and a turquoise seat to interchange! I think it's a great idea too - I think it was Kaaren Jordan who actually came up with this idea of making the seat, stirrup leather tubes, and grab strap tubes, so that you don't have to have any "color" on the basic saddle, but still have a good dash of color. Sounds like a cool idea! I went riding yesterday with a lady I met on the Fjord group. First we rode her Friesians in the coverall arena. I've never ridden a Friesian-man do they have a huge trot! I had to refresh my posting skills. It felt so weird compared to riding my little ponies. I didn't think they were that comfortable a ride, but boy are they beautiful. Then we went out on the trail. She rode her mellower Friesian and I rode a Fjord. I took my hybrid Sensation and tried it on the Fjord. It fit him great and Kim tried it and loved it. She likes color too and when I told her she could get the saddle in different colors or just have the seat in different colors, she was sold. [IceHorses] Sensation Hybrid "chameleon package"
I think I said that I've ordered another Sensation Hybrid. I've been working with Kaaren Jordan (www.kaarenjordan.com) on placing this order, because I wanted something a little more exciting than a plain ole black saddle...but on the other hand, black is so versatile and looks good on all horses. What Kaaren and Dana have come up with is something that I think Dana will reproduce - Kaaren has called it the "chameleon package." Basically it's a solid color saddle - mine will be a black Hybrid. However, she will make me an extra detachable seat, black with piping trim in colored leather. She will also make the "stirrup tubes" to match the colored piping, as well as making a colored leather tube to cover the grab strap/handle. So, I get some color on my saddle, but I'm not locked in if I want to change it back to all black. The really cool thing is that this can be added to a saddle you already have, since the seats are interchangeable, so you can buy the "chameleon package" to interchange with your existing saddle seat. I think she can do this for any of the styles - dressage, trail or hybrid, and I think you can have her make the seat all in colored leather - Kaaren can provide the details. I've also ordered a Harmony Bridle to complete the set, which will be black beta biothane, trimmed in the colored leather. Now, all I have to do is pick my color...but I'm working on it. :) Karen Thomas, NC
