RE: [IceHorses] Sensation rigging pictures

I want to demo the Western style when it comes out in the fall. It
looks like a comfy saddle!

I can't find a picture of the western model right now, but I know I've seen
pictures. My impression was that the seat and pommel is about the same as
the Hybrid, which I love, but the saddle has fenders instead of stirrups. I
love my Hybrids.

I thought I had a pic of the western one here too, but can't find it
at the moment.

I finally ordered a hybrid for Solon. Pinch me.

Yea, I was thinking about both saddles after I went to
bed last night (me bad). Doesn't the hybrid have a
bit of a knee roll at the front and a thigh roll at
the back? I love my Sensation, but knowing they have
improved them and have bigger seats for my bigger
butt, I think I will have to consider getting another.
I am now gun-shy of the treed saddles because the
horses don't seem to stay the same and what fits
today, won't fit tomorrow!!

Do you think because I am fat, that I need to rig my
saddle differently? tivar's girth was very snug at
the start of the ride and very loose at the end.

Does it have the hard use stirrups? What size shims
are in your pad? Is it the Skito made for the
Sensation? I talked with Kaaren Jorden on the phone
yesterday about me and Whisper. Because of my weight,
I have to keep the hard use style stirrups, but I am
getting the easier ones. I must say, that before I
mount up, I overtighten the girth, only because I know
the padding will give when I get on, so the girth will
loosen up shortly because of that. I do use a breast
collar, and I needed it Saturday on my Endurance ride
because we did some hills. At the halfway point (15
miles) I did have to re-adjust the saddle and pad -
the pad had slipped back a bit. I do not plan on
using a crupper, however.

Kaaren is very knowdgeable and full of information, so
I would suggest you talk to her. Here is her website:
http://www.kaarenjordan.com/

I didn't want to go treeless with Whisper, I just had
the Sensation for Foxi and I figure Andi will go in it
eventually, but I am tired of wasting money on treed
saddles that don't fit a year later!!

Doesn't everyone think about horses, tack and saddles as they fall asleep?
;)

I'll see if I can get a couple of pictures of the trail and Hybrid side by
side. I'm not sure how much will show up in pictures though, since they are
both black saddles. Maybe I can put a ruler in some pics for comparison.
I think one of my trails may be just like yours- it is about 2-2.5 years
old, with a cordura flap, made during the period Skito was making them. Is
that what yours is?

I'm not sure I understand - which did it slip, forward or back?

I'm not sure I understand either :) what I am trying to say is that
it fit good when we rode out, and the only reason it could have gotten
THAT much looser was if the saddle and girth worked itself to a whole
nother part of the belly where it could be that much smaller. cause i
couldnt have tightened it any tighter where it was!

Yes, Tom from Skito made mine, too. So it is the same
era.

[IceHorses] Sensation rigging pictures

2007-04-22 Thread Karen

Susan, here is the picture of the rigging thingy that my local saddler made for
me. Dana now makes one almost identical - I think it may be standard on new
Sensations she sells now - at minimum, it is an option.

Since webbers are made to slide onto a stirrup bar and this is a closed loop,
you have to turn the endurance stirrups upsidedown to get it to work. Un-bolt
the top of the endurance stirrups and slide the bolt through the webber loop.
Then you slide the open end through the Sensation loop, and fasten the
t-buckle. It works like a charm. The Sensation dealers can get you a spare
stirrup attachment for about $20 I think - I've been dealing with
www.kaarenjordan.com.

I just talked to Kaaren Jordan, and because of my
weight and time in the saddle (for endrance) the free
swinging stirrups will not work for me. However, she
does have something I ordered that is still a hard use
stirrup (distributes weight better), but eliminates
the blanket type buckles I have. They will be 1 so I
can use my 1 easy ride stirrups on them! So, thanks
for her link! I am also interested in demoing one of
the Sensation Western models when it comes out this
fall!

I've really enjoyed dealing with Kaaren. She's been great to brainstorm
with - she's given me lots of ideas about things to try, especially for
Cary.

Re: [IceHorses] Sensation rigging pictures

2007-04-22 Thread Janice McDonald
today when I got off tivar at the end of the ride my saddle
practically fell off. It had been unbelievably loose Lord only knows
how long, and we had been trotting and even catering fast in and out
trees, even one incident where I almost came off him grabbing a tree
to catch my balance like an idiot, once trotting fast around a hairpin
curve and lungeing up a steep hill. I couldnt believe the saddle
stayed on! I think a sensation is a little more like a treed saddle
when it comes to stability. Like a treed saddle will sorta stick to a
sweet spot even if the girth is loose. I think it was like that. Or
maybe the medi cheval pad helped? But I dont think I would need a
breast collar or crupper unless I knew we were gonna be doing some
really rough hill work. My girth had slipped back steadily, or
forward one, so that it needed tightening and I didnt know. But
anyway, it didnt slip until i jumped to the ground and pulled it with
me. and even then it only slipped about four inches.
