Re: [IceHorses] Treeless Saddles
i just want to say I owned almost every treeless there is at one time and was very unhappy with all of them. When I bought a used sensation G3 I loved it but it was still slippy when I mounted and dismounted and I had a real bad accident in it when stonewall did a spin and I flew off, which made me feel I needed more security. But Tivar HAD to have a treeless. So I sold the G3 and got exactly what I paid for it, and then with only a hundred dollars more got a like new hybrid, and THIS, believe me, is to me, as secure, comfy, and non-slippy as any treed saddle. I swear it is, and I am heavy and barely fit in it!. but the pommel is high enough to offer security and altho it was less slippy it still slipped when mounting til I got a well fitted breast collar and used the fixed stirrups and it hasnt slipped a hair since! So before anyone discounts treeless saddles or even sensations, TRY a hybrid. Janice -- even good horses have bad days sometimes.

And I would make the stirrups too short to try and fix it and then my knees would hurt! One thing I have learned is sometimes people will love a saddle so much they will think everyone in the world has to have one and it just doesnt work for everyone! Even tho I love the sensation I try not to do this to people, like if they love their saddle and it seems to work with thier horse i dont go on and on about it. But because of jaspar and his probs i have had so many saddles. People I know are always asking me for saddle advice :) I have one riding friend... she is a BMSS die hard like most of us are about sensations. She just wont hear of any other saddle and is always just preaching to everybody about how they need a BMSS. For like three years we would go back and forth pleasantly. She would smile happy and say "If you had a nice skito pad when you had your BMSS it wouldnt have slipped with you" and I would say "once you get around 200 there is no saddle pad on the planet that will keep you from slipping" and she would grin and say "well in a BMSS you sit so deep even if it does slip a little its almost impossible to lose your balance!" Then one day on a HUGE ride we all stopped as a deer came bolting past and there we were at a dead halt and she goes whoops, my saddle slipped and did one of those things where you try to jerk it back in place while sitting in the saddle and at a complete dead halt, she threw herself out of the saddle and hit the dirt. I didnt have to say a word either, she was as red as a beet! haha. But she still rides a BMSS! and hey, thats fine with me :) I'm just glad she didnt get hurt, or like me saturday, land in a pile of fresh poop and crack your helmet wide open , jeez louise. janice-- yipie tie yie yo

>>told her I felt a BMSS caused hip orbs because i didnt even HAVE hip probs and it hurt my hips. Why? because you sit in a position where your legs just hang straight down, no "chair seat" type bend at all in the frame. i loved my BMSS ~!! it worked great for my hips. i think it all depends on how your pelvic floor and hips are set up in your conformation. i also have had friends who hated the BMSS ...cuz they couldn't sit with wide hips. but...for me...it worked like a charm, but not for huignn. <;[ darn. (when i trialed mine i used it on students ranging from 60# to 240#, and in height from 4'6" to 6'3", so you can bet i was trying out a lot of different adjusting ;) maybe talk to your dealer too? kaaren jordan was a HUGE help to me when i was fiddling with mine, we must have spent hours on the phone and i sent her gazillions of photographs. i didn't like the sensation all that much right out of the box -- certainly nowhere near as much as i liked my comfy quilted hrimnir, but once i had it "just so" it worked much better for me. --vicka

I have hip problems and have gotten steroid shots > in the past but usually doesn't hurt in the saddle. I dont have any hip probs at all and have owned several different models and brands of treeless saddles. First of all, how and what type of riding you do makes a difference. That being said... I owned a BMSS once that was my first treeless. After about an hour into a ride I would start feeling tension in my hips. After two hours my hips hurt. after 3 hours and into the 4th hour I would actually be hitching my legs up onto the horses shoulders for some relief. I started telling my friends that BMSS was killing my hips. My friend has hips so bad she is considering hip replacement and she has been riding a BMSS for years. I told her I felt a BMSS caused hip orbs because i didnt even HAVE hip probs and it hurt my hips. Why? because you sit in a position where your legs just hang straight down, no "chair seat" type bend at all in the frame. I ditched the BMSS. I have had several treeless since. The Sensation has the velcro thingie you can adjust either forward or back. That velcro thing is the key in my experience/opinion to hip pain/relief. because you can adjust it where you want.
