At home in Ben Lomond in the Santa Cruz Mts we have recorded 10+ inches
beginning Thursday evening. Never lost power for long, but friends in Lompico
and Love Creek area have been without power for 3+ days as of yesterday.

Try the Sierra mountains and the ski resorts. Heavenly Mountain near
Lake Tahoe shows a big spike during the storm
(http://cdec.water.ca.gov/jspplot/jspPlotServlet.jsp?
sensor_no=11696&end=01/08/2008+08:
13&geom=small&interval=30&cookies=cdec02), and Mammouth Mountain in the
eastern sierra reports 6-8 FEET of new powder from the storm
(http://www.mammothmountain.com/index.cfm).

All of this is good news for California since much of the state depends
on Sierra snow pack melt for its water.

I love Marin County! I lived in Ignacio back in the late 80's. I hope
this weather blows over...soon. Raven

That was Kirkwood, a ski area that is very high in elevation. They are
thrilled as last year was a bust for the ski areas. Now they just have
to be sure there are no avalanche dangers ( they blow up and set them
off before a skier does) and the crowds will go crazy once they can
get up there safely. It is raining hard again here.

A light dusting of snow on the highest peaks. The more densely
populated hillsides of Marin County and the 101 corridor got most of
the coverage on TV.

It said on our news that someplace in CA got 11 FEET of snow - I grew
up in northern OH and we got some big snows but I just can't imagine
11 feet.

Here in Sonoma in northern California we got a good 8" of rain but a nice break
in the storm to allow for run-off so the creeks didn't jump their banks. Our
winds at about 40 mph were calm compared to some other areas. A light dusting
of snow on the highest peaks. The more densely populated hillsides of Marin
County and the 101 corridor got most of the coverage on TV. We're ready for
the next wave and feeling so smug because we didn't lose power at any time.

We were without power for about 36 hours. The wind was amazing. The
rain and bits of debris hurt when they hit me. We have a lot of water
and mud but we are on the top of a sandy ridge and will drain quickly.

Our power came on about an hour ago and has been off since sometime Thursday.

We are lucky because a nearby town has an estimate of another week. We
had lots of rain (5 inches) and lost a tree but all the horses and
other animals are just fine. The wind was the big problem here, when
it was gusting, my sliding glass doors were visibly bending and water
came into the house under them. The news mentioned on it was similar
to a hurricane.

just rain. It has drizzled all night and no wind. Sylvia

It is raining, but not really really bad. It was consistent all night, so
we do have some puddles, and there was a little wind, but none now.

I heard that the roads going to Ramona may be closed, so Sylvia might be
landlocked for a while.
