She's pale in the summer too. I have a non-icelandic horse that is palomino. In the summer she has a medium gold color. But in the winter she grows in white hair so she looks like a palomino roan. But even if I feed the stuff to enhance color to keep her from fading out in the summer she still does not get real dark. So she is much lighter in the winter, medium in the summer. Sherrel

Every summer, Andi's palomino gets darker and darker, then he "whites out" again in the winter. Last summer, he was a rich, golden palomino with a lot of dapples! I think I took some dapple pics last summer, will have to go look at my computer at home for them. >>> I have noticed this and wondered if the longer hair and denser undercoat etc may make a difference in the color? Sina's hair coat is just like any other hair coat in the spring and summer. The long hair is just a winter thing. She's pale in the summer too. Karen Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lorraine, what color is scooter? Is he palomino?? I am noticing a lot of icelandic palominos are very very light, what is sometimes called Isabella. I wonder if that is because the hair is so long and dense and underneath it is darker? just curious. Scooter is very beautiful. I'm not Lorraine, but I think the medium to darker palominos we see in QH's and TWH's are pretty rare in Icelandic's. Sina is so light that she looks like a dirty gray/white in the winter. When she sheds in the spring, she is still a very light peachy-cream color, only slightly darker, and it's only then that you can see her star, strip and snip. I think her shade of palomino is pretty common in the breed - it looks like she, Charm, Andi and Scooter are all very similar in color. She's a little lighter than my old QH was, and he was considered a light palomino in QH terms. Ironically, no relation to the color, they are my two soulmate horses, and they have (had) the same facial markings. He died about 6 months after I got her. Karen Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED]
