Re: can we please postpone the ipv6 post-mortem?

2010-10-18 Thread Stefan Winter

 Hi,

Windows 7: enabled by default. Mac OS: enabled by default. Linux:
whatever your distro does. I fail to see your point.

Windows XP: disabled by default. Has been sold on the majority of
Netbooks well into 2010, and Netbooks were 1/3rd of the PC sales.

By the time end consumers feel an actual *need* to run IPv6, popular
computer magazines will have the hot, new, hacker trick 'cmd' - 'ipv6
install'.
But by that same time, people will probably not even remember the
acronym XP. Hopefully so, for all of us :-)

IPv6-capable beta firmwares for Fritz DSL-routers exist only for the
two most recent models 7390 and 7270(v?). Other models (like the 7112/7113)
or 7170, 7150) do *NOT* have sufficient resources to run IPv6 -- their
flash memory is close to full as well as their RAM when they're running.

So you need to buy new IT equipment every n years, where n is by
preference (for the vendor) a low number? I'm shocked. BTW, switching
your DSL contract after the 2-year-handcuff of your favourite operator
will give you a new model for free.

RE: Last Call: draft-ietf-dime-rfc3588bis-25.txt (Diameter Base, Protocol) to Proposed Standard

2010-10-18 Thread Romascanu, Dan (Dan)
Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the comment and sorry for the taking a few days to answer this,
but your comment generated some discussions within the IESG, which are still
ongoing.

There was no IPR disclosure made directly on draft-ietf-dime-rfc3588bis-25.txt,
and this is why the IETF LC does not mention any. This may be a miss in the
case of 'bis' documents, and we are discussing in the IETF whether our
procedures need not be modified to cover such cases. For the specific case I
asked the IESG secretary to contact the submitters of the IPR disclosure on RFC
3588 and check with them whether they believe that the IPR also applies to
draft-ietf-dime-rfc3588bis-25.txt.

Regards,

Dan

   Hi,

I was surprised to see the line No IPR declarations were
found that appear related to this I-D. in the message from
ietf-announce. Its predecessor, RFC3588, has a filed IPR
 disclosure from Nokia, see

 https://datatracker.ietf.org/ipr/323/

A very long time ago, I looked into the patents in question,
and they seemed to be related to the T-Bit (Diameter message
command flag for potentially re-transmitted message).

Page 35 in 3588bis still contains the T-Bit. As a naive
non-legalese person, I would think that the same disclosure
that applied to the T-Bit in 3588 also applies to the T-Bit
 in 3588bis then.

 Greetings,

 Stefan Winter

Subject: Call for Community Feedback on Willing Nominees

Call for Community Feedback on Willing Nominees

Per RFC 5680, NomCom 2010-2011 is issuing a call to the entire
IETF community for feedback on the Willing Nominees for the open
IETF positions.

Nominations closed on October 8 and the list of willing nominees is now
quite stable.

What is feedback?
=

Feedback is information you think will help NomCom make a decision on
selecting candidates for open IETF positions. Feedback should be based
on information you know first hand about an individual nominee.

Review the list of willing nominees and open positions
==

Familiarize yourself with the list of IETF open positions at
https://wiki.tools.ietf.org/group/nomcom/10/

Then familiarize yourself with the list of willing nominees at
at https://wiki.tools.ietf.org/group/nomcom/10/input/

If you need a username/password to see the list of willing nominees it
is very easy to obtain at http://tools.ietf.org/

Just select Get Passwd from the left margin and follow the
instructions.

How to Provide feedback to NomCom
=

Simply use one of the following methods:

- The best method is to enter it directly on the NomCom Wiki
https://wiki.tools.ietf.org/group/nomcom/10/. Then select Provide
Comments making sure you correctly select the nominee and position
from the pull down menu.

- Or send an email to nomco...@ietf.org and be sure to identify the
nominee and position the feedback pertains to.

- Or contact one (or more) of the NomCom members by email or in Beijing.

You may also provide anonymous feedback by contacting one of the NomCom
members who will anonymize it for the rest of the members.

NomCom would like to thank all those who submitted nominations, and all
the nominees for their consideration of the various positions to which
they have been nominated.
