Protocol Action: 'Static Context Header Compression over Narrowband Internet of Things' to Proposed Standard (draft-ietf-lpwan-schc-over-nbiot-15.txt)
The IESG has approved the following document: - 'Static Context Header Compression over Narrowband Internet of Things' (draft-ietf-lpwan-schc-over-nbiot-15.txt) as Proposed Standard This document is the product of the IPv6 over Low Power Wide-Area Networks Working Group. The IESG contact persons are Erik Kline and Éric Vyncke. A URL of this Internet Draft is: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-lpwan-schc-over-nbiot/ Technical Summary The Static Context Header Compression and Fragmentation (SCHC) specification, RFC8724, describes header compression and fragmentation functionalities for Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) technologies. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) architectures may adopt SCHC to improve their capacities. This I-D describes the use of SCHC over the NB-IoT architecture and provides the configuration in each case. If 3GPP adopts SCHC, then this I-D recommends some values. Working Group Summary There was no opposition but the group involvement was limited beyond a few usual suspects. The good news is that those were deeply involved in the WG products, so we chairs believe that the document is good enough for good RFC. We need a strong signal to 3GPP that we can do IPv6 on the NB-IoT non-IP data channel at little extra cost. This is the only known method to achieve this. Document Quality There are no known implementation. A liaison statement to 3GPP [1] was sent for action, i.e., review the I-D at the IETF Last Call stage. IETF 116 Birds of a Feather (BOF) proposals due by 27 January 2023
This is a friendly reminder that preliminary proposals for Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions for the upcoming IETF 116 meeting are due by 27 January 2023. If a proposal needs further work, the IESG and IAB will work with BOF proponents on revisions, but the initial proposal needs to be received by 27 January 2023. IMPORTANT: BOF proposals are now made via the IETF Datatracker at https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/bof-requests Additional instructions for submitting a BOF proposal are available at https://ietf.org/how/bofs/ Please also read https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc5434, "Considerations for Having a Successful Birds-of-a-Feather Session", if you are not familiar with it. BOFs are just one of a number of ways of bringing new work into the IETF. If you are considering a BOF request but you are unsure whether to submit it, please ask the IESG now by sending an email to i...@ietf.org, or speak to an individual Area Director (https://www.ietf.org/about/groups/iesg/members/) about your idea.
