Update to comunity about challenges on NomCom selection
Hello, For full transparency about the NomCom voting member selection process, I am sending this email. During the challenge period, some community members raised objections about Kiran Makhijani's status as an independent volunteer. Martin and I received a satisfactory explanation regarding Kiran's independent status, and according to the RFC 9389 eligibility requirements, she qualifies to serve on the NomCom 2024 as voting member. There is a possible question: when can a volunteer be considered independent? Is a grace period needed between their last employer and achieving independent status? If the community wants to discuss such an amendment to RFC 9389, I welcome it. However, I would decline applying those changes to the current NomCom 2024. Regards, Dean Bogdanovic nomcom-chair-2...@ietf.org ___ IETF-Announce mailing list -- ietf-announce@ietf.org To unsubscribe send an email to ietf-announce-le...@ietf.org

Correction in NomCom 2024 Volunteer Selection Results
Hello, The lottery results are in and these are the results: # The seven numbers from Croatian Lottery Loto 7 on July 6th, 2024 12 13 15 18 24 27 32 # The seven numbers from Euro-Millions on July 5th, 2024 11 13 29 31 47 1 11 # Six numbers from the US Mega Millions on July 5th, 2024 6 15 32 54 67 4 # The nine numbers from the Japanese Lotto 7 on July 5th, 2024 5 7 22 29 30 32 36 3 33 Unfortunately, there was an operator error. In the 2024.seeds, I had a leading new line, which created a wrong string ./12.13.15.18.24.27.32./1.11.11.13.29.31.47./4.6.15.32.54.67./3.5.7.22.29.30.32.33.36./ (see the leading ./) The correct string is 12.13.15.18.24.27.32./1.11.11.13.29.31.47./4.6.15.32.54.67./3.5.7.22.29.30.32.33.36./ I've corrected the 2024.seeds file. Rich Salz, who is the implementor and maintainer of the code, will be informed about this issue. The original list sent out had 163 names, but the 2024.names was 1 name shorter, and that was corrected as well. With using corrected seeds, the RFC 3797 algorithm produces the following list: ./pick -s 2024.seeds -n 2024.names -c 15 -d Read 163 names Need approximately 69.5 bits of entropy Key string is 12.13.15.18.24.27.32./1.11.11.13.29.31.47./4.6.15.32.54.67./3.5.7.22.29.30.32.33.36./ indexhex value of MD5div selected 1 BC81F2624CA65F4E4D06FBBE391A2C07 163 -> 33 <- Nick Doty Center for Democracy & Technology 2 EA58F62A08DD75055BC556603E1746FA 162 -> 122 <- Hang Shi Huawei 3 904BECF7222521E31E1DA5E15CB52580 161 -> 43 <- Giuseppe Fioccola Huawei Technologies 4 DC9D1194C9E0FBF11DF5DAB23758505B 160 -> 127 <- A.J. NomCom 2023 Final Announcement of Eligible Volunteers
This is the announcement of the final set of volunteers for the 2024-2025 nomcom voting member pool selection. Selection from this list will occur once the random seeds are available, on July 6th. As per RFC 8713, challenges to this list can be made, with the following additional constraints: 1. Someone who is listed but ineligible will simply be noted as ineligible. Then if they are selected, another draw will be made and the next volunteer will be selected instead. Please make these challenges early. 2. Someone who is NOT listed, but who believes they have volunteered and are eligible, please let me know before Friday 2024-07-05. If I receive a valid challenge regarding a missing volunteer after the first random seeds become available, that will delay the process because new random seeds will be need to be selected. Note that there was an error in the interface between the IETF registration system and the datatracker that resulted in incorrectly marking people as a volunteer for the 2024 NomCom. That error was corrected, and the fix was deployed on 4 June. We've removed the incorrect volunteer records on June 5th and new volunteer list was created. Finally, thank you to everyone who volunteered. This is an important responsibility and we appreciate all these people being willing to serve our community in this way. The full list of 160 volunteers with name and affiliation follows at the bottom of this email. This is exactly in the order that will be used for the RFC 3797 selection process. Last week to volunteer and NomCom 2024 Volunteer Selection Process
Hi IETFers, We're in the last week of accepting NomCom volunteers. We have about 140 volunteers, but a few more would be great. One click is all it takes to volunteer for NomCom 2024-2025 Volunteer Here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/nomcom/volunteer The final list will be announced shortly after July 1, 2024, with a few days to contest any inclusions. Volunteer selection will follow the process documented in RFC 8713 and using RFC 3797 "Publicly Verifiable Nominations Committee (NomCom) Random Selection", the following are the seeds that will be used: • The seven numbers from Croatian Lottery Loto 7 (https://www.lutrija.hr/hl/rezultati/loto-7) on Saturday, 2024-07-06. • The seven numbers from Euro-Millions (https://www.euro-millions.com) on Friday, 2024-07-05. • The six numbers from US Mega Millions (https://www.megamillions.com/winning-numbers) on Friday, 2024-07-05. • The nine numbers from the Japanese Takarakuji Loto 7 (https://en.lottolyzer.com/result/japan/lotto-7) on Friday 2024-07-05. Nomcom 2024-2025 Third Call For Volunteers
The IETF tools development team identified an error in the interface between the IETF registration system and the datatracker that mistakenly marked people as volunteers for the 2024 NomCom. (Please note that volunteering via the registration system is not offered for IETF 120 registration.) This error was corrected, and the fix was deployed on June 4. The correction for the bug can be viewed at https://github.com/ietf-tools/datatracker/pull/7484. We have removed the incorrect volunteer records as of June 5. However, this has led to a severely reduced number of eligible volunteers (below 90). Please review your status and consider volunteering for NomCom 2024-2025. Please check your status at https://datatracker.ietf.org/accounts/profile/ after signing in under the "NomCom Eligible" section,. If you have already explicitly volunteered using the datatracker, you will see "You have volunteered for the Nominating Committee 2024/2025.” If you are not yet volunteered, you will see a Volunteer button. You can also volunteer via CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER: https://datatracker.ietf.org/nomcom/volunteer or directly emailing me at nomcom-chair-2...@ietf.org Thanks to everyone who has volunteered so far. However, we currently have only eligible 90 volunteers. We need many more. So, please, please volunteer.
