I'd also strongly recommend against using "PC CDROM" and "PC x86 64 bit"
printed on the CD. We can write these in the white space (a little more
of whitespace to be provided) using a marker. Then we'll have a generic
CD/DVD sticker.

Other suggestions:
1. Do we need "website :: " before the url? Just listing the URL ought
to be enough, right?
2. The text about the mailing list.. Isn't this better:
"Please send your queries regarding .. to ilug-tvm@googlegroups.com"

Hello,
Any body know something about
an image processing library
that runs upon fedora 10..???
Since i'm newbie pls answer me in way
i can understand. I need to do some

doing before 2 years
Draw lines,circles.etc.
Put colors
Call some functions
And blablabla..

I'm not very sure about what you need. Which programming language are
you planning to use? C++? Python??
"blablabla" doesn't help in trying to understand what you're saying :-)
If you want to "Draw lines,circles.etc. Put colors", then Inkscape
might be good for you. You can also try GIMP (it's a painting
application like photoshop).
But you also mention "image processing library" and "call some
functions" implying that you need to write some program that generates
drawings.
Again, what programming library do you use?
If you are comfortable with the command line, then try ImageMagick
(http://www.imagemagick.org/). You can also use this library from a
variety of programming languages.

And if you are using C++, then give Qt a try. It has good support for
graphics and embedded OpenGL etc.

What's a custom launcher?
If it's a Windows shortcut like thing to launch an application,
then you can right-click inside a folder and select: Create New >
Link to Application and choose the target application.
If it's a menu entry, then right-click the KMenu (KickOff) icon and
select 'Menu Editor'.

[fsug-tvm] Assembly instructions from GRUB's MBR

2009-03-20 Thread Prasad SR
GRUB often replaces the original MBR code when someone 'tries out' Linux for
the first time.

The MBR contains GRUB stage 1 - load the next stage of GRUB (which may
reside physically elsewhere on the disk)
Stage 1 can either load Stage 2 directly, or it can load stage 1.5: GRUB
Stage 1.5 is located in the first 30 kilobytes of hard disk immediately
following the MBR. Stage 1.5 loads Stage 2.
When GRUB Stage 2 receives control, it presents an interface to the user in
order to select which operating system to boot.

"Where do you want to install the boot loader?"
1) "Master Boot Record (MBR)" - means about 8 KiB (16 sectors) of 'stage2'
code will also be written into the first track
2) "First sector of boot partition - may or may not write any of GRUB's code
into the MBR sector!

GRUB can function as either a Master Boot Record (when installed in the
first sector of a PC's /dev/hda device; that is, its Primary, Master hard
disk) or as a Linux install's Volume boot record (VBR)

GRUB makes sure not to use any of the bytes between offsets 1B8h and 1BBh
because they're used by Microsoft® Windows™ NT/2000/XP/2003 as the NT Drive
Serial Number; which in our example above is the four-byte WORD E1A8E1A8h.

2009-03-20 Thread sunil s
But what I feel is

Debian

1. A vast collection of softwares
2. Easy and powerful package management system
3. Stable in respect of gui
4. Solid
5. A vast range of hardware support

I think the same is applicable to any distro based on the debian
RHEL is also good. But its graphic support is not good ( It is my
experience)

You can edit /etc/passwd to change any user's UID to '0', giving them same
powers as
'root', not recommended though. Ideally you would not login as root, and
'su'/'sudo' only when you want to run something as root.
