[fsug-tvm] Vanishing desktop icons
I had been using Ubuntu 8.04 since its release and had been satisfied with its performance. Two days ago, I installed the new version 9.04 from the CD I received from www.ship.it .ubuntu.com which shows some problems. Quite often when the 'Home' or 'Documents' or other icons are clicked, the openig window appears but disappears immediately. The desktop the become 'clean' showing no icons in the usual background. it needs a reboot with auto repair of graphical display to see the icons again. How can I solve this problem. One must never set one machine of the network to auto-negotiation and another to a fixed speed/duplex. It could cause speed problems. [fsug-tvm] Funny new problem- Debian 5.0 + BSNL Broadband- Unsteady connection
Hi I have a PC with dual core E2500 with 2 GB RAM, 250 Gig HDD dual boot with WinXP and Debian 5.0. I have BSNL Broadband connection with the modem connected to COMPEX NIC interface card. During Initial set up itself pppoecinf done and the connection was set to come up boot time itself. No probelm for past 3 months. Suddenly, now for past 3 days when I boot into the connection goes off and on randomly making continuous browsing impossible. What I meant was, the five lights in the fron of the modem (Huawei Smart AX MT 800- Year 2005 Vintage), one for power, two each for the DSL and LAN , link and activity, the DSL link light goes on and off and browsing does not take place. Okay , I boot into windows. Here also blinking of DSL goes on, but once it is connected, it is steady. Here I connect it like dial up, I made a shortcut for connecting Broadband on clicking. I am unable to understand why in Debian it is unsteady and rock steady in WinXP which should be vice versa. Can anybody tell me why this is happening?
