Try ddrescue (http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html) or dd_rescue (http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/ddrescue/). These different (but similar) tools can be used to recover files from corrupted CD/DVD media. I've tried both and they work quite well. On Fedora, you can do: yum install dd_rescue ddrescue to install both packages. Syam --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Freedom is the only law. [fsug-tvm] Re: filesystem got corrupted after filesystem check.........
2009/9/1 Visakh gokulda...@gmail.com: Detailed information on how to use smartmontools and analyze its output are available on following pages: http://blog.shadypixel.com/monitoring-hard-drive-health-on-linux-with-smartmontools/ http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/6983 Smartmontool shows many such parameters - along with their thresholds. If a parameter drops below its threshold, it indicates bad health. Some parameters indicate impending disaster if they fall below their threshold. Others indicate gradual degradation due to poor environment. Anyway, its is useful for assessing and predicting failures. I hope this becomes useful to you. Please let us know about your experiments with it. Thanks, Goul, for these bits of information. I am travelling riight now - Onam vacation, you know :-) I will loo into these after I return and get back to you. Best -- V.
