Normally IDE HDD doesnt shows errors unless there`s error in hardware. Do
you have any other OS installed and running fine on that hard disk?? Please
try changing the IDE cable. If possible try installing using another IDE
hard disk and please post the result here. Also try to create partition
using gparted in ubuntu live cd.

The configurations of the machine

Intel Celeron 2.0GHz
256 MB RAM

Installed OS - Linux Mint 6 "Felicia"

It booted normally, was problems with gui loading, so we have to boot it in
compact-ability mode and killed some of unwanted processes. There after we
were able to install. The installation took about 20mnts to complete.

Its based on ubuntu 8.10 + multimedia applications + compiz settings
manager. I think its very good for newbies over installing ubuntu 8.10 and
then configuring multimedia,compiz etc
I would recommend it personally its hazard free. The people present @ ptc
were so impressed in seeing such a all in one distro. They have ordered over
60cds of Linux Mint to be distributed among themself.

However all the machines in the lab had only 256MB RAM each. The live CD
booted fine but we could not get the installer up and going given the 256MB
RAM. We had no other option and give this a shot by tweaking around the set
of running programs. We finally got around to getting the installer up and
going by doing the following

1) Taking out everything on the GNOME Panel including the Mint Menu. You can
do this easily by right clicking on all icons and separators on the panel
and clicking on 'Remove from Panel'

2) Open up a terminal and run the following
 sudo bash
cd /etc/init.d/
./pulseaudio stop
./bluetooth stop
./cron stop
./cups stop
./networking stop
./NetworkManager stop
./samba stop
top

Once top opens up sort by memory usage and kill any of the following
processes that are still alive

trackerd
cupsd
smbd
nm-applet
bluetooth
gvfsd-trash
gnome-screen-saver
gnome-power-manager

You can do this by pressing 'k' and then the process id of the process you
wish to kill once inside top. You can send signal 9(to force) or 15 to kill
the process.

Another thing you can do to speed up the process is to partition the disks
using fdisk from the terminal, create a swap partition and then turn on the
swap partition using swapon.

place an ant finds is inside the hard disk casing. The ants comes out when

Why cant we deploy freedom toaster on all fourteen districts by taking
sponsorships?
The idea has been discussed earlier during freedom walk at
Trichur lug meeting.
The idea was to get sponsorship from Kalyan silks, Josco, Allukas etc,
   Two sides of the toaster will be used for the sponsors add, also
a scrolling
add can also be provided in toaster. It will be viable if we can find more
than one sponsor.
We can deploy the toasters in all major colleges so that the sponsors will
to be interested
What say guys??

The system can be a celeron or sempron based one with a 320GB HDD + DVD-RW

The first toaster is made of wood, now as we are planning to deploy larger
quantity and we have the prototype designs ready we can go for Steel chassis
for the toaster.

The cost will be around INR 45,000 - INR 50,000 i think, anoop can conform

OK. try this

1. Set IDE mode in BIOS
2. Reinstall windows bootloader
3. Enter into windows Install the SATA drivers (some blogs may help u)
4. Reboot and set SATA mode in BIOS
5. Try booting into windows with it. If successful
6. Reinstall GRUB using Live CD.

This will solve your problems.

The problem is that your partition is FAT32 convert to NTFS to solve the
probs

You cannot create a file larger than (2^32)-1 bytes (this is one byte less
than 4 GB) on a FAT32 partition.

Good to hear that, what you can do is get them, 5 - 6 will do and try out
installing major distros such as Ubuntu 8.10 and Fedora 10. So that you will
get enough volunteers to man the stall and help the incoming installations.
ilug-tvm has done Installation Guides on both you can refer those. Please
updates on your plans for the day.

First convert the file into ‘pal-vcd’ format using ffmpeg [its a command
line tool]

ffmpeg -i myvideo.avi -target pal-vcd myvideo.mpg

then try burning using brasero or k3b

 Happy to say that Freedom toaster from now will contain top 100 distros
listed in www.distrowatch.com

 Also I have sorted out a table showing the distros and there desktop
environment, this pdf can be used for a quick reference of different
flavours.

The area specified for writing Distro name should be of white colour. But i
think then it would affect the look of the CD-label.
PC cd rom can be changed to PC-CD/DVDROM or can be removed
rest i think is fine
