[fsug-tvm] Tata photon plus in Ubuntu 11.04
Hi, I bought a tata photon plus EC 156 device. My Ubuntu 11.04 is not even detecting the device at all. Thanks for the detailed reply bipin. I am not really into gaming. But I need windows 7 in my pc indeed(for my office use). Linux support means, i dont have time to tinker around with drivers for getting unity or compiz support. So i prefer machines that support it out of box, might be open source drivers. Hardware side, a descent display( 15 inch or 17, what you recommend)( I watch a lot of movies). Good battery backup(I heard, Linux is bad in this case). processor Ram and all other stuff(descent conf). Brand preference - My frineds said there are many problems with Lenovo and Thoshiba(thosiba the worst!). So I think, I can't move away from Dell. I have submitted my project report in college. It is prepared using Open Office. Unfortunately my lecturer rejected it by pointed out two mistakes. First one is, 'You didn't started a paragraph from center!' I wrote like this : "Free software, software libre or libre software is software that can be used, studied, and modified without restriction, and which can be copied and redistributed in modified or unmodified form either without restriction, or with minimal restrictions only to ensure that further recipients can also do these things and that manufacturers of consumer-facing hardware allow user modifications to their hardware. Thanks. But, in our college, lecturer has started only teaching JavaScript. Your code is too complex to understand for a newbie! PC' sin our college lab are dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows. I think version control systems and ERP will be very complex to my group mates, as they don't even have any idea about Free Software. Two projects that comes to mind are 'Dia' diagram editor and Gbrainy. But, they both have good documentation. Hi Folks, Anyone read the June month's LinuxForYou magazine. They published an article( page no: 74 ) about their new FOSS advertising platform "FOSS Yellow Pages". The irony is, all screen shots in the article is taken using "Windows". Why it's so? All Free Software preachers only talk about the advantages of Free Software and the great ethics behind it, they dont' use it!! This is shame! Also, I think they are using proprietary software for designing their magazine layout. Community magazines like 'Full Circle' are using Scribus successfully for it. [fsug-tvm] Fedora 13 DVD USB Boot
Hi, I got Fedora 13 DVD image. As I don't have a disc drive, I googled for how to install DVD image for USB stick. Live image can be installed to USB stick using 'livecd-iso-to-disk' which is installed itself in the image. But, to boot DVD image from USB, I think the only way is to: "dd if=/path of image/ of=device name" The command executed sucessfully. But, when I booted (Kingston 4 GB) using it, "No operating system found. Not root partition found. Use the correct boot option" error displayed What to do? -- "Freedom is the only law". Hi, I'm at the end of my college project. It's time for to start the report work. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with OpenOffcie 3.2. My project is in PHP. Also, the report has to include 'DFD'. So, there may be some simple diagrams. So, what I have to use? openoffice writer or impress? Also, i want to include the full source code in the report neatly with syntax highlighting. Is there any FOSS magazines available in India other than Linux For You. I want print magazines to subscribe, not online communoty one's. I just visited linuxjournal.com , linuxformat.com, linux-magazine.com, ubuntu-user.com. But, they are very expensive when shipped to India. I mailed publishers, to provide some offer for India. I have installed compiz packages in Fedora 12 KDE. Then i enabled it by System Settings-->> Default Applications-->> Window Manager-->> Compiz. Hi all, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. Two days ago, I installed Fedora 12 KDE. But, I'm in a doubt, it's resolution is not setted properly. I checked Display properties. It says 1024x768. It's the same resolution i'm using in my Ubuntu. But, in fedora, right side elements of desktop are not visible. So I think it's not the correct resolution.
