[fsug-tvm] Cudnt Connect net in My laptop with Ubuntu 10.10

I installed Mavcerick in my Sony Vaio ( C series ). Im using broadband. When
I connect the lan cable to my lap the modems light is gettig off as if the
lan cable is disconnected. So i cudnt use the net.. There is no prob with
pre installed win7.. Please help me

[fsug-tvm] problem in installing firefox 3.6

im using karmic koala in that i tried to install firefox 3.6.. But when i
tried to do it im getting many errors like this  "*tar:
firefox/application.ini: Cannot change ownership to uid 0, gid 0: Operation
not permitted* ".. What does this mean & how could install firefox 3.6 ?? is
there .deb available instead of tar.bz2 ??

I think you have 20" monitor.. Now adays 20"/22" amsung LCD's have this
prob..Its the problem of your monitor not of OS.. Just contact your service
provider or call samsung toll free number 180030008282..They will clear the
problem with no cost if u are in warranty period..

There are certain pendrives which are already encrypted.. For that pendrives
we cant do anything in linux.. There is a software truecrypt  inorder to use
it in windows..  Without the help of the software cant do anything..

I too experienced that problem.. Inorder to resolve it change acpi & apic to
off at the time of installation itself.. it is also possible to change it in
terminal by resolving IRQ conflicts.. But i dont know how to do it..

login as root
type the command  pppoeconf . hen some diaolog boxes will appear in which
you have to make yes & no this will proceede to a window whereo type
username & password. to connect use  pon dsl - provider & to disconnect poff
is used. to know the current status use plog... hope u'll get conected.

[fsug-tvm] need help in compiz & doubt about vista theme

im athithyan from mesce
i searched for a vista theme as one brother @ ilug told
me that i could get it from net.( i think it is pradeebetan because i saw
him for first time there @ fsfs conference tvm). i got many but only 1 or 2
is working.when i installed 1 i got a message that
   *  "This theme will not look as intended because the required
GTK+theme engine is not installed"*.how can i install a GTK+theme engine ?
  *   Another is when i applied compiz effects i dont have title bars
for all windows except for ccsm.is it due to lack of memory.i have 752MB ram
& 16MB shared* *memory*.The visual effect i put is in extra mode.
  Another doubt is  can i make *dock* as it is shown in ubuntu
compiz videos..if how ?i searched it in net and downloaded many but nothing
is workng..
