[fsug-tvm] Changing display resolution permanently

Hi,

I am right now working on a Meego board. The default resolution is 1024x600.

To fit the screen into the display, I usually scale it with this.

*xrandr --output LVDS0 --scale 1.28x1.25*
*
*
I want to remove the headache of setting this every time by setting it 
somewhere.

I tried the following
[1] adding it in .xinitrc
[2] added it in /etc/init.d/rc.local
[3] /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf 's boot command line

But in vain.

Any suggestions?

The students of CS department of CET, are hosting DotSlash 2011 as a part
our 25th anniversary. Our technical festival is on 25-26 of February. As
part of DotSlash, we are having a hackfest which involves participants
working on different Free softwares and open hardware projects. We are
expecting about at least 50 capable participants and as of now have two
project proposals.

As of now we have a 2Mbps leased line. Within a short time we will be
getting a much more faster connection. Will inform about that.
Use our mirror as it helps us to monitor the most probable usage, so that we
can configure the server on its basis. It would be a great help for linux

Well, right now I am behind a proxy and couldn't manage to get much of your
details.

   1. But its better that you make your system installed with any light
   weight linux. Backup it ASAP and re-install. If you are on VM then its okay.
   2. Create a new user with bare minimum access to essential binaries.
   3. Statically compile the libc.
   4. Monitor and sandbox the permission of the user.
   5. Make sure you have a web server which is "considered" safe. Apache is
   quite heavy for its purpose. Lightweight http servers are there.
   6. You should know well to configure the web server. This would be
   something that you would be knowing knowing better as you are one of admin.
   7. Regularly monitor the kernel logs. utmp and wtmp.
   8. install gufw or fw. Restrict the allowed connection
   9. Remove unwanted binaries from the system.
   10. Once install though it may sound crazy 
   11. Its better that you don't put DE's like GNOME or KDE in servers. Put
   DE's like open-box or enlightenment. More preferred that you dont put X
   service at all.
   12. Far better, you configure it as SE-Linux

I think "man xrandr" would be helpful.

It includes flags to disable output and enables it. This can give you the
required blinking effect.
But the issue is, the solution to the problem makes it worse. ie; blinking
the screen will drain your battery faster.

If you just want a solution to just blink this will do.
It has lots of flags. I don't remember the correct switches. I think you can
find it. :)

Technically speaking there is nothing more than giving representation and
all. But i think social networks can help us gain some group support and
cyber activism to enforce the govt for FOSS. WIth facebook and twitter we
can convince people about the issues installing proprietary softwares in
KSEB. This may sound immature but i think we can gain a lot more attention
from people to the subject.

Hi friends,
I am using crunchbang startler. The issue is, I cant afford to press two
keys to launch a terminal. For coding or doing anything literally, i really
need to launch the terminal in just one key. I would like to set the super
key to launch the terminal as it don't have any other significance.

When i googled,i just found setting and compiling new keyboard maps. I
couldnt find any way to map custom keyboard shortcuts to application. Please
help. Thanks in advance.

Search monkey is good. But google desktop is far better and cool.
Google-desktop search utility has faced some law suit for anti-trust blah-

Using windows based product is synonymous to using insecure products. So why
bother to emulate "insecurity" to linux. I would suggest you to remove wine
and  take a kernel update.

If you had not heard of Narayanan Krishnan, as I had not, it is a
collective failure. This is one of the most incredible stories of
personal commitment.

Narayanan Krishnan, all of 29 years old now, does what he was
professionally trained to do as a chef. Feed people. Only Krishnan
does not do this in the swanky confines of a 5-star hotel. Every day,
he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his
team, loads it in a van and travels about 200 km feeding the homeless
in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Krishnan feeds, often with his hands, almost 400 destitute people
every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too.

According to CNN, eight years ago, this award-winning chef with a
five-star hotel chain was all set to go to Switzerland for a
high-profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai temple, he came across a
homeless, old man eating his own human waste. That stark sight changed
Krishnan's life.

Much to the dismay of his parents, CNN says, Krishnan abandoned his
career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional
training in looking after those who could not care for themselves. He
has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his nonprofit
organisation Akshaya Trust, and now hopes to extend this to shelter
for the homeless too.

Krishnan is the only Indian in a list of 10 heroes that CNN has picked
worldwide to honour. One of them will be chosen CNN Hero of the Year,
selected by the public through an online poll. If many Indians get
together to vote for this inspiring man, he can win by a long mile.

If Krishnan wins he will get $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that
he gets for being shortlisted for the Top 10. Akshaya Trust needs all
the monetary support it can get to build on Krishnan's dream. Let's

if you are so desperate to remove the usb driver from the kernel just remove
the usb-storage kernel object to a temporarfy place.

SIGKILL and SIGSTOP cannot be handled.I think SIGTERM is the signal given
asking it politely terminate. You can handle it else the kernel may use
SIGKILL to kill the process which none can handle.
