Usually happens when you don't have enough space left on the disk, try executing

and check for the space usage.

Kerala for 2 weeks as part of his visit to India. He is a Debian
developer for ~ 15 years and actively involved in Free Software with
interests in Design[1] and Custom Systems[2]. He is also part of Freedom
Box project[3], a personal server that protects our privacy.

Couchdesign.dk has a log of all their activities[4] in India. He is
staying and working from KEK[5], a nice and friendly hacker space
located near Kovalam. Please see the links below for details.

improving reusability of Debian: Making Debian itself more flexible for
different needs.

KEK is inviting you to join Jonas, Siri and Maja on January 16th and
17th, Saturday and Sunday to be part of their visit to Kerala and have
exciting discussions in free software and distro building. This is also
your oppurtunity to meet friends of KEK.

If you have any difficulty finding your way to KEK please feel free to

[fsug-tvm] Debian Jessie slowing down

2015-07-28 Thread Sasi Kumar
Dear friends,

I find that Debian Jessie that I use on my laptop, slows down significantly
if I don't reboot for a couple of days and just hibernate or suspend (or
even just leave it running). Any idea why that happens and what could be a
solution? I use Jessie with Mate desktop, as it is closest to the GNOME-2
that I used to run. I have heard people boast that they just leave the
system running for days on end. I guess I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks for any help.

[fsug-tvm] debian packaging session/monthly meet in Thiruvananthapuram

2014-02-24 Thread Pirate Praveen
Hi,

Ganesh reminded me yesteday that I have not taken a packaging session
in Thiruvananthapuram. I'm happy to take the session in the evenings.
Ganesh suggested we can meet at hackerspace at space. If anyone wants
to join today or tomorrow or both days, please reply.

We can also kickstart ilug tvm monthly meetups with this. Cochin has
monthly meetings for manu years and Calicut also started monthly
meetings from this month. It will be good to have regular face to face
meetings so the communitu feeling is strengthened and also it sparks
new ideas, campaigns and projects.

mint. We are going to celebrate its arrival and intrduce to you what is
debian and show a demo on what's in wheezy.

GNOME is most popular desktop environment in GNU/Linux.

when moving to a new release you have to use dist-upgrade, then only
it can resolve some depnedencies.

Also using aptitude may be better than apt-get.

[fsug-tvm] Debian updation problem

2012-10-03 Thread Anish A
Hello All,

Sorry for cross posting. I really needed a solution.

I have installed debian squeeze on my Asus eeePC (1015 PX). I have
interruped the apt-get update process, while updating to wheezy, very
soon after download of all packages, so that I could update latter.
But, when I resumed the update, the following error message occurs.

anish@anish-eeepc:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
[sudo] password for anish:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libc6 : Depends: libc-bin (= 2.11.2-10) but 2.13-35 is installed
locales : Depends: glibc-2.13-1 but it is not installable
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.
anish@anish-eeepc:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... failed.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libc6 : Depends: libc-bin (= 2.11.2-10) but 2.13-35 is installed
locales : Depends: glibc-2.13-1 but it is not installable
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.
E: Unable to correct dependencies

I have tried many things that was available online. I could reinstall
and start over. But, in debian, I usually fix problems and go. Please
help.

Shotwell is a light weight photo manager which allows you to do
minimal image editing.

Skype is neither open source nor GPL. So not sure whether you can
re-distribute it.

Re: [fsug-tvm] Debian Re-Mastering

2010-12-11 Thread Shibu Nair
Dear friends

I have done voting to the components which i know leaving the unknown un
attended.
I am a beginner and i am a user not developer. My specific demand as a user
are the following.
1. The file search options should be more user friendly like windows. I
mean, provision for more than one search criteria should be given, and
provision for copying files (in single or in group) from the search list to
another place should be given. (Whenever I want to search some files and
want to copy them to a memory stick, i have to see the search list and note
down the path and go back to explorer to copy them individually.

2. Renaming option. In windows, you select any number of files together and
just click rename for one file, the rest of the selected files will
automatically change their names with serial number. This is necessary for
managing photos. For example, I have 150 photos shot from wynad and it have
the serial number provided by the camera. If I want to attach 'Wynad' to the
file name of these files, In windows, i select these files and click rename
and type wynad. it will result all the files will have wynad as name and
there will be a sequential number. This is easy.

3. Formating option - It is quite often one need to format their pen drives
as we used to do with our floppy drives. Now I have to go to ubuntu
repository and find out a package and install and do. I think it should be
the integral part of the distribution since it is an application people
regularly need.

4. Printer drivers - Most of the printer drivers do not come with all
features like 'fit to page', reduce to certain % and so on. This control
options are absent in many printers under ubuntu.

5. Scanners - attaching a scanner to the computer is quite difficult in
ubuntu, where you have to be genius to do so. can it be in a form of plug
and play?

6. Font installation - It is very confusing and complex to install a font
downloaded from net. Can there be any small application that will enable
people to do font installation easily?

7. Photo manager - a simple application (like picture manager in windows)
for easy conversion and file management of images (to resize, to compress,
to convert)is necessary in linux too. Gimp is good but it is for experts
only.

8. I would recommend to add "Picassa (linux version)" and "skype (linux)
since picassa is good in image management and importing image from a scanner
or camera and skype is preferred communication application. installing
picassa in linux is easy, but skype need some technical hand to deal with
sound and picture.

9. Like windows movie maker can there be any simple software attached to
linux for users to make movies (most of the cameras now come with movie
options and stills)?

10. Auto run CDs. - Nowadays we get many auto run Info CD/DVDs. They do not
work with linux. How can we create autorun CDs for linux Any application for
creating autorun CDs which will have option to run in windows and linux?

11. Lastly, Any facility for donating (simple donations, not credit card /
paypal..)even small contributions (like sending SMS to contribute Rs.10/-)
for linux community in Kerala (like your group)? This will pool good amount
of money for open source software development and distribution plus, gives
opportunity for all people to be part of it through sending a simple
donation which is an sms away! this will gather mass support in propogating
the idea of open source. I believe it is waste of time and resources to get
free CD's of linux from Europe. That money can be saved if we can get those
CDs free from Kerala itself leaving an option for the receiver to send one
or two sms to a particular number which will take care of cost of the CD and
postage.

I don't know whether the features / functions I mentioned above are already
covered in the application in the voting list. Please ignore such demands
and advice me those.

love and peace

Well, I must say you join SchoolOS. You can visit SchoolOS wiki and learn
how and what script were used to customise it. We have documented it well
and you can follow all updates on googlecode.
http://code.google.com/p/schoolos/
After that your can change logos/wallaper/theme or add/remove packages
whatever you want.

Coding repo contains code/script for Ubuntu. we are working to create exact
same behavior (packages/customisation) on Debian and fedora. You might take
up these branches.

I have asked what packages are installed on your system , I got full package
list 8 system. I will send a common list so that you can determine what are
most needed packages..

Please join SchoolOS mailing list so that we can work together for some
commons goals..

Re: [fsug-tvm] debian 5

2009-12-09 Thread Subin Sebastian
sources.lst is the file that should contain the list of repositories added
to your system. If its empty, that means your system don't have any repo to
install packages from. But I think by default atleast the debian.cd-rom
should be there, so its seems to be something wrong with installation. You
can add custom repos (or cd-rom repos) as you wish...

It appears to me that your sources (for packages) are not properly
configured. Can you post the contents of the file /etc/apt/sources.list
here?

I don't consider any question as "foolish". People ask questions here
because they don't know the answers. Only thing you can do is to look
for the answers as best as you can. We expect people to do that before
they raise the question here. An Internet search will fetch you answers
for most questions.

[fsug-tvm] Debian mourns the loss of Thiemo Seufer

Debian Project mourns the loss of Thiemo Seufer

The Debian Project has lost an active member of its community. Thiemo
Seufer died on December 26th in a tragic car accident.

Thiemo was involved in Debian in many ways. He has maintained several
packages and was the main supporter of the Debian port to the MIPS
architectures. He was also a member of our kernel team, as well as a
member of the Debian Installer team. His contributions reached far
beyond the Debian project. He also worked on the MIPS port of the
Linux kernel, the MIPS emulation of qemu, and far too many smaller
projects to be named here.

Thiemo's work, dedication, broad technical knowledge and ability to
share this with others will be missed. The contributions of Thiemo will
not be forgotten. The high standards of Thiemos work make it hard to
pick up.

To honour his contributions to Debian, the project decided to dedicate
the upcoming release of Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 "Lenny" to Thiemo.

The funeral service will be held on Monday January 5th 2009, 13:30 at
the Dominikanerkirche in Bad Wimpfen. If you want to express your
condolences please send mail to . It will
be passed on to Thiemo's family.
