Yes, it is true. LGPL permits the software to be used in proprietary
programs. I think this was written primarily to permit some amount of
inter-operation. And, I think, it was even known as the licence for
libraries. However, now FSF encourages developers to use GPL.

ffmpeg is commandline and it is very efficient.
I once researched about video editing as past of my companies project and
found many commercial software make use of
ffmpeg. Many Open source apps of the same kind are also derived from it.

Exactly Gokul.
ffmpeg is working fine. Since there are some codecs avoided in ffmpeg
package for GNU/Linux, the dependency issues occur.
