However, you will need a fax modem for that. Instead, it seems that your printer/scanner can act like a normal fax machine - independently from the connected system. It seems to have a separate phone line jack for this purpose. But, I don't think it can be used to send fax from the connected system. @ gokul source -- file modem -- in the fax machine itself i am now working on hplip-gui. Since you were able to send fax using HP s/w, you may be interested in this description of the Gnu/Linux HP Linux Printing and Imaging System (HPLIP) s/w: The HP Linux Printing and Imaging System provides full support for printing on most HP SFP (single function peripheral) inkjets and many LaserJets, and for scanning, sending faxes and for photo-card access on most HP MFP (multi-function peripheral) printers. There is a package called hplip-gui which seems to have the ability to control fax. Its description and screenshots suggest this. It is not installed by default. You may want to give that a try as well. Regards, Gokul Das On Jul 16, 12:23 pm, stranger in black. gnu...@gmail.com wrote: @ Gokul I tried to use efax-gtk, but cant configure it. [fsug-tvm] Re: fax in ubuntu
thanks gokul... u r great it worked after the installation of hplip-gui. after the installation, it can be found in systempreference and can easily configure the fax and printer machines.. Here is the page for hplip support for hp officejet 4355: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/officejet/officejet_4300_series.html It says that GUI support is not available (I don't know what that means exactly). But Fax is available - with the following statement: Fax supported means that PC initiated fax send is supported using hp- sendfax, once an appropriate CUPS fax queue is set up. Fax support varies on Linux distributions, based on the availability of python- dbus version 0.80 or greater (versions before 0.80 will not work with HPLIP). I really don't know about the CUPS fax queue they are talking about. Anyway, please let us know about the progress.
