AFAIK, KDE-4.2 is not available for any released ubuntu versions
(Intrepid still has 4.1). The upcoming release(Jaunty) will have
KDE-4.2.

Here is a guide to install kde-4.2, but from the comments, it's risky.

@Everyone, how do you get KDE 4.2 on Ubuntu ? Is it on the repositories ?

As for me, it was pushed to my desktop as an update. I usually have the full
KDE install because i like it that way ( There is no KOffice though )

Why dont you upgrade to KDE 4.2 ? 4.0 was a release that announced that the
new KDE is here. It is very buggy and its better to use GNOME than go with KDE
4.

which open in a single click
I installed kcontrol, so icould find what you said. eventhough i
changed themes look and feels remains the same.
initially i was not able to set desktops more than two, but some how i
corrected it.
strange enough when installed kde for the first time , certain things
didnt work. but when i reinstalled it , its working.
i dont like that java swing look and feel really dont.

now how do i change the menu style ? using kcontrol?

Its really strange if you don't have this. What kind of menu do you get when
you click on the K Menu ? There are two types. The regular one (Classic) and
the new 'Kickoff' style menu. If its the new menu, there will be a search
field in it and you can type 'System Settings' there to get the option.

Which OS are you using ? I am using a regular KDE installation on Arch Linux.

[fsug-tvm] Re: kde look and feel

2009-02-08 Thread Ashik S

You can change the default KDE looks from

: Right click -> 'Appearance Settings' and choosing plasma themes there or
installing new ones by clicking the 'New Theme' button there. You can also
get more cotrol over appearance ( Icons , Color scheme etc ...) from 'System
Settings' -> Appearance. You can launch System Settings from 'K Menu->
System-> System Settings'

IMHO if you go for looks, stick with KDE. The most beautiful desktops i have
seen are either KDE or heavily customized fluxbox/xfce.

Shino,
I have installed KDE 4.2 (KDE nightly). Its having a great look and feel.
Far better that previous version. And it is pretty organised than Gnome.
