Download unrar from
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/unrarsrc-3.9.7.tar.gz.
(mind you, not the open source version but the official one). Extract the
files, rename *makefile.unix* to *Makefile*, make & compile.

The problem is persisting with 7 zip also.


The package you need is p7zip. It should be in the repo. If not, head over
to p7zip.sourceforge.net.

You should now be able to open rar & 7zip files using Archive Manager.

Just right click an archive & click "extarct here". That will work.

Me too think it is in the repo. If not, append this line : "deb http://*
cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu* dapper main universe" to your
/etc/apt/sources.lst, and reload package info. Then you can install unrar.
This repo info is for dapper, and I'm not sure if it work for you on karmic!

To extarct rar files, install the "unrar" package. Then by just right
clicking the .rar files you can extract it.
