[Ilugc] Making a paper CD case

2009-11-01 Thread Shrinivasan T
 Hi,

Say you got a spindle of 50-100 CD's and you're eager to share out the
latest karmic koala or fedora 12 CD's or DVD's with your neighbours.
Giving away CD's loose is definitely not a good guarantee that all the
rough handling and the dust will allow the OS to boot up properly. So
is it not possible to also buy 100 CD/DVD jackets.

What we can do is check out an illustrated tutorial like the one at

http://www.papercdcase.com/about.php

and make your own paper CD cases.
You could dig a little to find out, how to have CD graphics printed on
the backside, how to strengthen the case and so on.

What is even more important than capturing the concept is to use words that
are in common usage. KG has stressed this point also. In my experience, I
have seen the word கணக்கு being used for account(as in user account, both in

said in a previous thread, new, not-so-used words that capture the concept
better, should be welcomed, but at the same time, commonly used words should
also be mentioned to make it easy for the user.

[Ilugc] Reg: video downloader

2009-11-01 Thread aishwarya .
Hi,
There is a software called the "Internet Download Manager" for windows.
The main functionality (there are also many other functionalities, the most
attracted one is this) of the software is , when there is a video played in
a site like youtube or any embedded video, we get an arrow mark on top
asking whether to download the video. If we click the arrow it starts
downloading immediately even if the videos are copy protected.
Is there any possibility of creating such a package for linux?
If so can anyone pls suggest me some ideas..

k now leave the part of "copy protection", if you see a video in any site,
the download manager should ask for the download action/option, is it
possible..?
I'll try to upload some screenshots reg that and i'll send the link.

[Ilugc] .a-tip-a-day. (gdb - debug C programs compiled with gcc -g )

2009-11-01 Thread Girish Venkatachalam
Dearest Luggies,

I am very sorry for not sending language tip yesterday. I was away
from the computer. I shall send today
evening.

gdb is the canonical C debugger. It is not a graphical tool and there
is a graphical front end called
ddd developed by Germans. But I did not like it much.

gdb comes built in with many many features like bash. It has
completion features and several aliasing
features. For instance you can type

(gdb) list

or

(gdb) l

or

(gdb) li

with the same result.

And it is a very comprehensive debugging tool. Nowadays I don't rely
on gdb much since I use printf()s to
track what is going on in my code.

But gdb is very essential for program development in C.

The most important commands in gdb are (at least according to me)

o (gdb) where

shows the stack trace and it will tell you which sequence of function
calls crashed your program

o (gdb) list

shows you the next 10 line numbers

o (gdb) b main

sets the breakpoint at main. If you have the same function name
declared in multiple source files as static, then
you can say b foo.c:barfunction to specify that you want to break at
barfunction() in foo.c file

o (gdb) step

or 's' goes into the function. Very useful for stepping into functions
after breakpoint.

o (gdb) next

or 'n' goes to the next function. You can skip loops using 'n'.

o (gdb) continue

or 'c' continues beyond the breakpoint.

Debuggers are a big topic. Hope this gets you started.

கணக்கு is the correct word for bank account, the doubt is whether the common
man
will get the sense of it when it is used as a word for account on a site. Such
an account has a connotation of 'membership'. So some derivation of உறுப்பினர்

Not sure what you mean by copy-protected, but the Video DownloadHelper
extension for
Firefox will help you download videos from a number of sites.

How to find/search the id of a process running background.
 Say, i started the process using '&' - $tktalk&
If i don't know the pid of tktalk , could you let me how to find it.

The answer is in the email you responded to. Use `pgrep`.

Although if you are looking specifically for backgrounded jobs, you could use
the bash builtin 'jobs':

$ jobs -l
