 Install virtualbox-ose:

 Why virtualbox-ose? why not Virtualbox 3.0 ?

Once you download the package you have
 virtualbox_1.5.4-27034_Ubuntu_gutsy_i386.deb file

Install.deb file using the following command

 sudo dpkg -i virtualbox_1.5.4-27034_Ubuntu_gutsy_i386.deb

Is this an official ubuntu supported release ? What's the difference? I just
downloaded the Virtual box 3.0 deb from their site. Works well. What's the
difference bw that and virtual box ose ? And does ose stand for Open source
edition?? Just curious.

Why I could not install rpm package in ubuntu 9.10?

When you ask a question of this nature, its always a good idea to
express the issue ( which you did : not being able to install an rpm
package on ubuntu ). And then also mention that it is that you tried and
how did you fail. This is not something you did, and pretty much
anything that anyone comes up with - will either be unhelpful or just
patronising. I'll assume the second and consider you as not knowing what
you are doing. So here goes:

You should be able to 'apt-get install rpm' and then just use the rpm
command to do the install etc ( get creatively interesting with deps ).
An rpm file is just a cpio archieve so another option is to install
rpm2cpio, extract the payload, and handle that whatever way you like. eg:

mkdir -p ~/tmp/myrpm; cd ~/tmp/myrpm/; rpm2cpio pathto.rpm | cpio -idv

And finally, there is an app called 'alien', which will conver your rpm
into a deb file ( works fine for the very simple rpm's - if there is any
level of inherited complexity, you need to handle that on your own ).

Just a couple of recommendations:

1) how about working with the basics of Linux rather than distro and
niche specific stuff ? things like that are best handled in their own
distro specific mailing lists. eg. one could easily run a
month-of-coreutils commands for the CLI side of things and another month
of components-in-X.org for the GUI side.

2) put the name of the app, and just the name, in the subject line of
the email that is posted.

3) Abbreviate the 'one-application-one-day' to something like OAOD (
after a few days, most people will know hat that means.

Just my bit, use / disregard as appropriate.

I personally like Celestia better than Stellarium. It's been long since I

Celestia lets u go to several stars in the visible universe. They've
included details of almost all extraterrestrial objects. You can even get up
close and personal with some spacecraft. like ISS / Hubble / MIR etc. If you
go far off enough the solar system, you can even meet the long dead

Stellarium and Celestia are two very different applications. I use both.
Stellarium is more of a planetarium application and Celestia is a full
fledged space simulator. Both are brilliant in their own ways. Stellarium is
a great sky map application. Very practical to take with you to the terrace.

[Ilugc] Redmine - Custom fields

2010-01-04 Thread Yogesh
Hi,

I'm trying to add a custom field to the issue tracker in Redmine. I was able
to create text, boolean and time/date fields. But I also need to create a
URI field which has to be 'clickable'. I have been chasing my tail so far.
Please help.

Re: [Ilugc] one-application-one day(Stellarium)

I have been trying to compile NightShade...
It compiles OK, by I get a segmentation fault while trying to run the
 compiled app.
I have not yet looked at the code.

Stellarium seems to be very good. But why nightshade ? What disadvantages of
Stellarium does it aim to overcome ? Any idea?
