[Ilugc] Kind Request to the Workshop Organisers

2010-04-18 Thread sri kumaran
Hi ppl,
ILUG group has been doing a wonderful job of organizing workshops and
seminars about open source softwares, spreading the awareness.I request the
organisers to record the proceedings so that people who are not able to attend
the events will be benefited. There are many free video hosting sites who can
host the videos ..(like NPTEL lectures which are really helpful for the student
community)!

 Hi All,

I am new to this group and just joined up last week sometime. Just wanted
 to say hello :)

Anyway, here is a simple explanation of your query:-

Cloud computing is nothing but technology that have all computing power in
the Internet. For e.g., right now, when you use email, you already use the
cloud. However, in cloud computing case, even your operating system will
boot from cloud. You will only have a dumb terminal in front of you with no
 capabilities.

The future is what Pano Technologies have introduced.
 http://www.panologic.com/
 http://www.panologic.com/

A true virtualised desktop with no computing power. This is what cloud is
all about. And when the company needs more processing/computing power, they
just buy it from the cloud services provider, instead of buying it on their
own. Imagine the hardware/maintenance cost savings if this model is
 implemented.

The only true major hurdle with this type of implementation is the security
 of the cloud.

 Hope this helps :-)

And to set privileges to the user who is logged in based on the passwords.

[Ilugc] Notes taking/organizing software

2010-04-18 Thread carti
Hi,

Storing/organizing the notes when reading is very important I feel.
This would be handy when searching and during quick retrieval with enough
of features. Also that is the way our brain organises the information.

I had been using The Guide a very nice windows based open source
software(Now available for Ubuntu/Debian as well). Based on the
name(Mahadevan R) of the developer it appears that it was developed by a
Tamilian. The author is not showing interest to enhance it further though
it is a very good tool.

Though I liked it very much, it lacks few rich features.

Can somebody suggest few small, open source feature rich tools which
supports rich text and embedding images with multiples pages shown as
file/directory multi-node structure. Essentially it needs to have
control+F/search facility.

Online tools are not very interesting as I do not want to give any
personal/need to be secure information to someone to access easily and
freely.

I have tried, freemind, evernote, ubernote.

Other than this, if someone can suggest any tool, that would be helpful
and great.

Note: Those who have not tried The Guide, give a try, you will like it.
http://theguide.sourceforge.net/features.html

Thank you very much.

Carti

Why not have just two usernames instead with full-rights and partial
rights? I think it is a better solution and more secure than what you
are trying to achieve.

(Never heard of a user having two passwords. That's a first ;-) ;-) )
