[Ilugc] weird boot error in mandriva

2010-08-13 Thread Kenneth Gonsalves
hi,

have a fairly aged machine which could only take mandriva 2009 (fedora
and latest mandriva do not install). It was running fine. Now it was
decided to make it a server, so an extra lan card was put in. Boots,
mandriva flash screen appears, progress bar at the bottom reaches about
3/4th of the way and then nothing happens. Multicoloured patches appear,
for example, where the mouse cursor should be we get a multicoloured
square that does not move. Once or twice it booted, kde came up and I
was able to use the machine. The new lan card was detected ok.

after a day or two it used to reach that stage and hang. I tried safe
mode and it worked perfectly giving the full kde screen at good
resolution. So it is not a grahics card problem.

so I tried again. it hung. there is no reset button, so I just tried
ctrl-alt-delete - and hey presto - the kde login screen came up and it
worked perfectly after that. Any clues about what on earth is going on?

Could you please give the directions to get there from Gajendra
Circle. I know where the traditional venue is (CSD 320), but not this
one.

Thanks

[Ilugc] postfix not writing to logs

2010-08-13 Thread Kenneth Gonsalves
hi,

on a new lenny server I did the default install of postfix. It is
working - but there are some errors. But it is not writing to the
mail.log file or to any log file. I have done some search on this point,
but am unable to find anything relevant. Any clues?

Instead of yet another distro, try out a Linux Appliance, that does something
specific.

Choose the Name & kind of Service you are going to offer.

Look at: http://msmeonline.tn.gov.in/index.php

File Form I, under Online Filing, If you are yet to start up. (Choose Computer
Related Service)

File Form II, under Online Filing, If you have already started.

You need to send a copy of it to concerned authority, signed.

The same can be done at District Collector offices (am i right?) across the
State, physically.

Most Nationalised Banks & few private Banks like CUB, KVB gives you a current
account at Rs 3,000 minimum balance. Do you need reference?

You are a Proprietor now, if you have chosen to do it alone.

Apply for a PAN. You can do it online too.
http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/pan/overview.asp

To my knowledge, for Proprietorship, individual's PAN is sufficient.

Is you estimate the Business is going to be below 10,00,000 during the first one
year do not, bother about taxes.

Keep going till 9,99,999.

PS: Unfortunately most of the links that I have provided above works
successfully
in IE only ;-)

If I get it right, msi files are installer files. I doubt there will
be anything to do opening them! on the other hand, they might work
with wine kind of emulator. I haven't used them in linux myself,
though.

MSI stands for Microsoft Installer files and they won't work on Linux.
Let's step up a bit. What are you trying to do with those MSI files?
