[Ilugc] Ruby on Rails on a php and python hosting.
Hey LUGGIES! I have been snooping around for an nice free host and happened upon http://x10hosting.com It was a great service that offered completely unmetered storage and bandwidth. But the thing is, I'd like to run a diaspora node on it. Diaspora runs on the Ruby on Rails platform. Unfortunately, they(the hosts) offer only php, python, ASP.Net, perl and MySQL. What I'd like to know is where or not there is any sort of emulator or parser that runs RoR applications on a python or perl environment? Thanks in advance! [Ilugc] [OT][Contest] InCTF 2012: A national level capture the flag style ethical hacking contest
Hello everyone, My name is Sanjay Gopalan and I am a student of Amrita University, Amritapuri, Kerala. The university, in association with Amrita TIFAC Core in Cyber security, is conducting a national level capture the flag style ethical hacking contest, InCTF, solely aimed at students. The contest is similar to several international CTF style contests such as UCSB's iCTF, RuCTFe etc but participation is limited to students enrolled in an Indian University only and is being held from November 2011 to January 2012. The goal of the contest is to impart to students knowledge of secure coding practices and the implications of not following them. The contest features 3 rounds-first round is a learning round, second puts the learning to test and the final round is the CTF round where teams will be given a vulnerable Linux machine to defend. The pre-requisite of the contest is knowledge of a programming language. Working knowledge of Linux is highly desirable but not required; learn the required skills while participating in the contest. The first round is a learning round which imparts the skills that will be required in the later stages of the contest. A team can consist of maximum 5 members, all of whom must be from the same college. There is no registration fee to participate in the contest. Prizes for the top 5 places: upto Rs. 25000, upto Rs. 2, upto Rs. 15000, upto Rs. 1 and upto Rs. 5000 respectively. Registrations to the contest are open till December 31st, 2011. Hi, I faced the same problem. So I went to the TOR website instead, and downloaded the 'Tor bundle' and installed that. The bundle gives you Tor+Firefox integrated, and It's the easiest way to use Tor. Cheers Suhit Kelkar ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
[Ilugc] [TIP] perl tutorial X (some code tidbits)
Hope you are familiar with the programming language by now. If some of you still dunno how to execute a simple perl script, please remember this. $ perl foo.pl $ cat foo.pl for(1..1000) { print; print \n; } You can easily accomplish many difficult tasks in text processing with perl even without using any regular expressions. You can easily convert all input into upper case: $ $ cat i.pl while() { print uc; } Perl's documentation is written in plain old documentation format (POD) which can be converted into pdf, text and of course the nroff man format. You can find all these converters: $ pod2 pod2html pod2latex pod2manpod2test pod2text pod2usage Perl's POD documentation can either be invoked using: $perldoc foo.pl if the file contains the documentation inline or even if the file that contains pod is in the standard search location. $perldoc perltoc will tell you all the topics covered by perl's installed documentation. It is huge, massive and no amount of reading will help you learn perl unless you really get down to trying perl and running it. Perl cannot be run interactively like Python. You have to run it one script at a time. All perl functions are written in the perlfunc man page. $perldoc perlfunc But it is useless. Instead you say $perldoc -f split or $ perldoc -f join or some such thing. Some of the perl functions you can learn today are 1)map 2) tr 3) substr 4) push 5) shift 6) pop 7) keys 8) values 9) pack 10) ord Just google and try out the examples. -Girish -- G3 Tech Networking appliance company web: http://g3tech.in mail: gir...@g3tech.in ___ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc

The Perl interpreter's inbuilt debugger comes close to it. You can add the '-d' switch like 'perl -d myscript.pl' or simply 'perl -d'. There is an external tool called 'psh', which is a shell replacement that uses perl.
