[Ilugc] Clean URLs in drupal

2012-03-04 Thread Vignesh Nandha Kumar
Hi,

I'm a newbie to drupal. I'm unable to enable 'Clean URLs' in my local
machine.

From phpinfo(), I see that mod_rewrite is enabled. But the Clean URLs
test in drupal fails with the message The clean URL test failed.

What am I missing? I'm using drupal 7.12 with LAMP stack in Ubuntu.

Check this list

   - mod_rewrite enabled in the Apache conf file
   - AllowOverride enabled in the Apache conf or vhosts file (so that
   .htaccess rules can apply)
   - The .htaccess filename specified in the Apache conf file
   - An .htaccess file in the root of the Drupal directory (may be hidden
on some filesystems, but should be there)
   - Rewrite instructions in .htaccess (distributed with Drupal, but
   sometimes needing tweaking)

To test your settings, run
apache2ctl -t

apache2ctl restart

Thanks. I was looking only httpd.conf and apache2.conf

Setting 'AllowOverride All' in /etc/sites-available/default fixed it.

Trixbox provides a better integration/UI for management of the VoIP

My another question is that can i use my existing telephone line with the
pri card or else i need to go for a separate line.

You should talk to the service provider for compatibility of your
existing lines with the PRI card you are planning. Assuming your
existing service is a simple POTS line, it will not be compatible with
the PRI card.

mode Set the operating mode of the device, which depends on the
network topology. The mode can be Ad-Hoc (network com‐
posed of only one cell and without Access Point),
Managed (node connects to a network composed of many Access

synchronisation master or acts as an Access Point), Repeater (the
node forwards packets between other wireless nodes),
Secondary (the node acts as a backup master/repeater), Monitor
(the node is not associated with any cell and passively
monitor all packets on the frequency) or Auto.
  Example :
   iwconfig eth0 mode Managed
   iwconfig eth0 mode Ad-Hoc

Try Ad-Hoc i.s.o ad-hoc

[Ilugc] managing a mailing list

2012-03-04 Thread R Hariram Aatreya
hi All,

I have been sending out a weekly newsletter on Hindu festivals / culture.

All these days used to do it through a gmail account.
However the number of subscribers has grown to 1000+.
So, gmail restricts the number of mails I can send out at a time.

I am looking for a solution where:
. I can send mails with my own domain name (parampara.in)
. Be able to send mails without restrictions

It would be good to have:
. auto subscribe / unsubscribe option
. archiving

I suppose I can install mailman on our site.
Any other options ?

Thanks,
hari.

If you want to stick to Google, use Google Groups. You'll probably have
to get Google Apps to have the email come from your domain.

Mailman may be easier.

That seems to be the solution. You knew the answer to begin with.

I have installed mailman once or twice but never played with it.

It is the de facto standard for mailing list software.

You could also put up your mails in a blog.

Best of luck.

[Ilugc] Chennai Hackathon March 2012

2012-03-04 Thread Shrinivasan T
This is a Wikipedia/Wikimedia hackathon, where developers are invited
to come write cool hacks on top of the amazingly large amount of data
that the wikimedia projects (Wikipedia, Commons, Wiktionary,
Wikiquotes, Wikisource, etc.) expose in a huge variety of languages.

Hacks can be anything, from an Android app that gives you 'situation'
quotes from Wikiquote based on sentiment analysis of your text
messages, to an app that gives you wonderful images of the places you
are at using Commons, to beautiful visualizations with Wikipedia edit
histories, to automatic song/album information gathering from
Wikipedia, to amazing dictionary interfaces across languages using
Wiktionary, to anything else that you can dream up. We'll have a few
people who have experience with the various APIs/data available.

Note: This is not a MediaWiki hackathon - Patches/Extensions to
MediaWiki are most welcome, but you are by no means restricted to
that.

Date: Saturday, March 17, 2011
Venue : Thoughtworks, Taramani, Chennai
