I wish I were a part of it. I am in Mumbai

I would like to make a slightly modified suggestion.

One can ask the businesses bring their problems/issues/requirements.

Promoting open source software won't hurt in that case...

Products like alfresco (as a replacement to file share), Jasper
reports/perntaho for CA openvista for heathcare vertical etc come to
mind. Perhaps a demo setup with heterogenous (but staunchly FLOSS in
the backend/infra) with fixed/mobile clients/frontends would impress
more.

2012-07-09 Thread Purani Sekar
Dear ILUGC members,

An Ubuntu release party and the Introduction to FOSS classes to be
held in our college,MIT on Saturday, 21st July from 1pm to 4pm.
The agenda of the day:
Inspirational talk on FOSS by Mr.Ramadoss of Yavarukkumana Software foundation
A talk about Features on Ubuntu by Mr.Shrinivasan of ILUGC
Release of Ubuntu 12.04.
Installation Demo.
Introduction to FOSS Classes.

The FOSS classes to be conducted by Mr.Ramadoss are to continue
throughout, every month on the third Saturday from 4 to 5 pm. It will
involve a 20 minute session of brainstorming wherein they will share
their experiences. The highlight of these classes is that the students
are mentored to do projects on various areas in FOSS, with a chance to
release an Open source application, certificates and internship at his
organization.

We hope this initiative is succesful and it is well received. We are
looking forward to hear from you.

Thank you.

With regards,

Mr. Chidambaresan and Mr. Sreenivasan,

I am interested in contributing towards some expenses of this event. We
manufacture Ubuntu powered laptops and desktops. The products will be
available near October 2012. Please have a look at
http://www.niamcomputech.com or
http://news.efytimes.com/e1/86421/Now-An-Indian-Company-Launches-Ubuntu-Laptops
for further details.

I would like to raise one issue - Businesses are too busy to bring boxes
to a conference BUT yes we can use readymade boxes and install open
source software on these boxes to market FOSS.

Hey, Awesome guys - I guess the next step is to meet someplace and take
this forward.

We can use my office at Chetpet for meeting. I can arrange for coffee,
biscuits/snacks.

Lets say we meet on Saturday, July 14 at 4pm. Whos in?

(We could decide on the date/venue based on the majority's preference. Just
offering one for starters.)

Regards,
M
