[Ilugc] System administration via web interface

2012-08-16 Thread Arun Khan
Besides webmin, is there any other package that allows system admin.
from a web ui?
It should support CentOS/Debian and Ubuntu server.

I have done some searching but have not encountered any thing so far.

Please share your info, if you have seen any or used any.

Debian turns 19 today! And the current implementation of dpkg, the package

about its development history and a nice video-visualization of the

[Ilugc] Awesome story of migration to open source in a hospital at coimbatore

2012-08-16 Thread Shrinivasan T
Here is the awesome story of a hospital in coimbatore migrated to
GNU/Linux, written by a doctor.

quote

The Great Dream …

This post is my dream .. or has been for about 4 years.

A day that my hospital runs on full Open Source Software.

First a little about me. I am a practicing Paediatric Orthopaedic and
Spine Surgeon. I am a Open Source enthusiast. I started using Linux 6
years ago and for past 4 year I am using it almost exclusively at work
and home. The only time I use Windows is for the odd gaming. I do
Python programming – web desktop.

I dreamed that the hospital will implement an all Open Source
Solution. I advised them likewise.

Dr. Easwar T.R. for the great efforts.

[Ilugc] Need help on issue with ldaps in zimbra

2012-08-16 Thread Shrinivasan T
I have a zimbra mail server.

Recently I wanted to move to ldaps from ldap for higher security.

Did the following steps to do this.

zmlocalconfig -e ldap_master_url=ldaps://mail.domain.com:636
zmlocalconfig -e ldap_url=ldaps://mail.domain.com:636
zmlocalconfig -e ldap_starttls_supported=0
zmlocalconfig -e ldap_port=636
zmcontrol stop zmcontrol start

wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/How_to_enable_ldaps

But, after this, external ldap tools can not connect to the server.

I can query the records within the server using ldapsearch.

If I do ldapsearch from external server, throwing following error.

ldapsearch -x -v -H 'ldaps://mail.domain.com/' -b

want more people to work with us to make 12.10 manual awesome.

How can I contribute for translation?
 Pls explain!

Arun,

Thanks for the interleaved reply.
But, You have to trim and remove all the unwanted quoted text in your emails.

The answers for your question are in the mail itself.
Read once again or read below.

People who are interested should check openings page, and drop us a mail if
 there is any question: http://ubuntu-manual.org/jobs

For those who want to ask questions, get involved or are curious i strongly
recommend them to subscribe to our mailing list
and send their mails there: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-manual

http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/pipermail/ilugc/2012-August/073000.html

See the links to know the effects of not trimming the unwanted parts of mails.

We have to search through the entire mail to find what you have asked.

Thanks for your interest in translation.

We tried some year back.
Read about the efforts here.

my suggestion isn't to put efforts on non-LTS ubuntu releases.

the changes are happening too fast to be continuously done, maintained
sustained at our end with limited infrastructure, resources volunteers.

suggest you to focus on bringing it for 12.04 LTS in another three
months maintain it till 14.04 and even till 17.04 until when it will
be supported by Canonical.

Siebel is not a technology that I know, but I know that you would get
more answers if you give some more details... like

1. When you say you want to 'connect' - do you mean you want the client to
access siebel server from a linux box?
2. How is the usual siebel 'connection' from windows happening - this will
give us some ideas on equivalents in linux
Also,
3. How do you think you will achieve cost cutting - by not buying doze
licences? Or is there any Siebel licenses that you think you can save on -
pl. elaborate.
