Can you explain why it is a waste of time ? Do you think there is
nothing that could be learnt from it ? In what detail have you looked
at the Minix source code to conclude that it is a waste of time to
contribute to that ?

There are still people who contribute to proejcts from 70's and 80's,
just for fun. Likewise, this is done for fun as well. If you don't
like Minix, leave it at that. Please do not discourage good work done
by someone.

Minix was a pet project of AST, intended at helping college
students. It doesn't matter whether its focus is on African markets or
Asian markets. There are a lot of things that college students can
gain from Minix.

It is a research project kind. If some thing is not in practical use it
does not mean it is dead. You can think of research in physics,
mathematics, string theory etc etc. If you were correct people will say
doing research in mathematics is junk but I think no one is saying so.

Minix project was provided with some 2.5million euros of funding some years
ago and 1million euros before that. If people are ready to provide *so*
much money then there must be something really good going on.

In fact its hard. We here are finding lot of problems even getting a guy
who has heard about Ruby programming. When I say to engineers I know Rails,
they look at me with suspision. The problem is people just master tech that
will earn them quick buck rather than to love it and know it. That's why
hey end up under horrible bosses who will pay them ans snatch their
freedom. All the best any way.

[Ilugc] Looking for a Ruby on Rails Rockstar

2012-10-17 Thread Shaahul Hameed
Hi

vakilsearch.com is looking for a Ruby on Rails Rockstar to head its
technology team to build the backbone of India's largest online legal
services company (like legalzoom / rocketlawyer of the US). The challenge
is to build and package the product in a way that makes buying a
professional service - as simple as - buying a phone on flipkart.

If that sounds exciting and want to discuss the technology challenges that
need to be solved, please email me at hameed at vakilsearch dot com with a
brief summary of your experience and contact details.

If you'd like to have a quick chat over the phone, 76677 13366 is the
number to reach us. The chosen rockstar would be working closely with the
core team at vakilsearch.com's Chennai headquarters.
