[Ilugc] [[Discussion]] How big companies handle their technologies and servers

2016-01-11 Thread sahil साहिल
Namaste Friends,

I am curious to know and looking for a blog where I could read or get to
know how big companies are handling their technologies and servers with
massive amount of data like Amazon, Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter et
al. I think these are the few companies which are the base of new
technologies and having lots of user data and we all have so much to learn
from all these that how they scale and optimize their technologies to get
the things done.

If anyone has something to share in this regard then kindly do that so that
we all can learn from that.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you.

Sure. Points noted. Will authenticate with certs instead of userid/passwd
and will monitor logs for sure for any invalid attempt.
Thanks for raising such points which are extremely useful for all.

:) No, this has nothing to do with that thread. I just want to understand
the inside technicalities of setting up a private VPN and how does it
impact the working of a firewall if any. Just that. I think that's the way
to learn something new.

And setup your openVPN server to authenticate clients (you on remote
location) with certificate not userid/password. Also watch the log
files and see who besides you is trying to establish VPN connections
through your Pi server?

BTW just curious, is this related to another thread you had started

Yes, once you add port forwarding to your modem you can use your
dynamic ip from whatismyip.com to reach your pi from outside your home
network.

No, my router and modem is same. Means single device. And, I have Raspbian
and I access it from my laptop via SSH (PuTTY) and configuring it on SSH is
not my issue. I want to access it from outside my home network. Let's
assume I am at my friend's home and he has his own home network and I want
to access my Pi from his location using his network. Is it possible?

OK. I will check it for GUI access. Yes, I access my Pi in GUI mode using
Remote Desktop Viewer (comes by default in Ubuntu) from my laptop when I am
at home or using same network.

If your modem and router are two different devices, you might have to
do it in both of them. If you have Raspbian installed, you could set a
static ip to your Pi (192.168.1.100 for example). Then if you want to

Not sure what you mean by GUI access. OpenVPN doesn't have a free
webbased control panel. There is OpenVPN Access Server, but I guess
you have to pay for it, and I'm not sure if it is available for the
Pi. If you must have a web interface, you would have to find a
different VPN server. Or if you mean remote login to a network machine
through the vpn, that should be possible with something like X2Go or
FreeRDP.
